All I gotta say is 2K Australia better not screw screw this game up. I can't wait! :)

2K and Gearbox Software announced today that Borderlands®: The Pre-Sequel™, an all-new standalone Borderlands game set in-between the award-winning Borderlands and Borderlands 2, is currently in co-development by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available worldwide in fall 2014 on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC.

I have the first two.. just can't get into them no matter how much I try.

Alas, I'll probably still end up with this one when it's on sale for $9.99.

"Hey, that Handsome Jack guy was pretty well written, but we made the mistake of killing him at the end. Let's bring him back!"

I'd rather have Borderlands 3, but maybe they aren't ready to work on that.

I've pretty much moved on from BL2. Too many hours hunting for same meh loot with better stats and different color scheme.

Wake me up when BL3 comes out next gen.

Is that Athena related to the one we met in BL1?

From their site:

The four new playable character classes are all familiar faces from the Borderlands universe: Athena the Gladiator (The Secret Armory of General Knoxx), Wilhelm the Enforcer (the robotic badass of Borderlands 2), Nisha the Lawbringer (The Sheriff of Lynchwood in Borderlands 2), and yes, even Claptrap the Fragtrap (from just about everywhere... unfortunately).

Who knows if this Claptrap just happens to be the same "last Claptrap" from BL2...kinda thinking he is.

I loved the first one on console, and bought the second one for PC hoping to like it at least as much given all the press, then I played it... Long, drawn out travel bits punctuated by random enemies that you have to take the time to kill, and some equation that determines whether or not the headshot you just pulled off actually kills the enemy when you were dead on? No thanks, I won't be buying another game in the Borderlands franchise. I need to re-install CS:S.

Interesting since I feel almost the exact opposite. BL2 was much more interesting with its varied terrain and characters. I almost skipped it since I didn’t like the first one that much (mostly played with a friend) but loved BL2 even solo.

The writing is great for the game, but they really need to overhaul the gameplay if they want my money for this one. I had a blast with the original BL when it came out, I think I played through the campaign with friends at least 6 times (counting replays for levels ~33-50), and then all the DLC's were great too. BL2 I do think had even better writing and better environments, but the graphics didn't improve much, PhysX made gameplay look bland or ridiculous, and the quest system still blew. I got the season pass and haven't played any of BL2's DLC because there are better games out there for my time. I won't pre-order this one and will wait for reviews.

Well, my girlfriend is the big BL fan and she's not a PC gamer. I don't see us digging the 360 out. So pass I guess. Wish they'd release a XB:One version.

Hell if they re-released BL2 on the One we'd probably buy it again.

I still feel like I ought to be able to pop off a headshot and have it be effective. I may give it another go, but I don't want to have to put in 6 hours + of play time in order to be effective.

Is it going to resemble Borderlands 1 or 2?

If the latter, I'll pass.

After killing the last of a big wave of enemies, I hope he says... "Sooo lonely..."

And he should have a dubstep taunt.

:D

Played through once; the second playthrough, I couldn't get any loot that was worth a damn. As a sniper with the highest damage sniper rifle I had found, it would require several headshots for each kill, with a clip of 6 bullets. Wasn't very fun. Would play again if the loot was synced up a bit better; it isn't an mmo, no need for me to be grinding to find weapons to be able to progress and have fun.

I think the BL line of games are great! It made FPS fun again. I look forward to BL 1.5. While I love the cartoonie look, I'm sure they can spruce it up a bit.

Doesn't get any better than the first Borderlands - its a classic - so if you can't get into it then not sure why you'd bother with this.

Why would they? Install base is 2 or 3 million XBONE's, versus 80 or 90 million 360's. Its also been in development since before new consoles were even announced, so that's why you won't be seeing it. borderlands 3 will be the nextgen title.

Randy lost some weight...looks ok not sure if I would pay same price for the same graphics engine.

I don't know how anyone can say BL1 is the better game with a straight face. It's like the beta version of the real thing.

i have the game of the year editon of bord 1, and palain bord 2 with the dlc that allows higher levels. For some odd reason the initial story line of bord 1grabbed me and i enjoyed it.. but just couldnt fully get into 2.. Part of it could be i had hip surgery about 3 days after i bought 2nd bord.

Borderlands 1: 321 hours played, finished multiple times.
Borderlands 2: 67 hours played, unfinished and not touched in a long time.

I dunno what it is, but imo BL2 was missing something that BL1 had in spades.

Hopefully this new one has what BL2 lacked.

This exactly. I put over 500 into the first and just over 50 into the second. Too much running around doing nothing across vast, boring spaces. Oddly, I saw people making the same complaint about the first, but getting a car in the first was easy and getting around took little effort.

Also didn't like all the gimmicky shit. Codes, endless character skins, etc. I don't need all that shit. Just clear, distinct gear...oh wait, that was too much to ask.

:facedesk:

Because the atmosphere. BL1 was inferior from a technical standpoint, and the story was certainly thinner with less cutscenes and dialog, but the atmosphere overshadowed all of it. BL1 was a brilliant mad max feel, whereas BL2 devolved to campy and brightly colored space cowboy theme.

BL2 was actually my first Borderlands title, put a couple hundred hours into that, then went back and played BL1 and all the DLC's and was blown away. The sense of dread and desolation in BL1 was something lost in BL2. Not to mention the gore is better, whereas BL2 got toned down for youngsters to be more mass market appealing.

I think you've nailed it... The atmosphere and feeling in BL1 and the DLCs was just so much better.

I have a hankering to go home and play some BL1 now :D

Not to mention that by the time I got past the "escort claptrap" stage at the beginning of BL2 I wanted to smash myself in the face. I started off just wanting to murder claptrap, but it dragged on for so long and was so painful that by the end of it I wanted to shoot myself.

Claptrap is a great sarcastic character but what makes him so amusing is the small doses. I can't imagine an entire game where he wisecracks nonstop and I can only imagine it getting really annoying. Even with the great writing behind Borderlands 2 it worries me to think that the overall feel of the game is now going to be quite different and the formula that already "works" will now be brushed aside for no reason at all other than to exploit a funny character.

I would have to see a lot more of the game before I could form a final opinion but needless to say I'm not very optimistic right now..

I have 200+ hours in both 1 and 2...so yea I'll get it.

Love it for coop with my son!

Just the Arkham Origins of the Borderlands series. Nothing to see here. Stopgap title by third party studio to keep the publisher happy and the IP generating revenue while the real developer works on the real nextgen sequel.

Effectively its an extensive BL2 mod with new art and assets. I'll still get it because I'm a sucker for this series.
