Today, Intel, 3M and SGI announced the implementation of a fully functional supercomputer that uses two-phase immersion cooling technology that can reduce cooling energy costs by up to 95 percent and reduce water consumption by eliminating municipal water usage for evaporative cooling. In this proof-of-concept, SGI ICE* X and Intel® Xeon® processors are immersed in 3M Novec* Engineered Fluid. The 3M Novec fluid is an efficient dielectric that keeps the hardware cooled with minimum additional energy, maximum performance and better reliability.

5 years from now...

3M Novec Engineered Fluid, when disposed of in open dumps, is found to cause severe genetic mutations in wildlife and has seeped into hundreds of municipalities groundwater...

;)

Would love to fill a fish tank with 3M Novec for a submersed compooter. The bubbling action would make it entertaining and attractive. Would need to add fake fish decorations

what the hell happend sgi you used to be cooler. i will keep buying used sgi workstations for fun.
