It looks like Amazon, Microsoft and IBM might be getting some competition in the cloud computing arena.

Cisco Systems Inc plans to offer cloud computing services, pledging to spend $1 billion over the next two years to enter a market currently led by the world's biggest online retailer Amazon.com Inc. Cisco said it will spend the amount to build data centers to help run the new service called Cisco Cloud Services.

Speaking as a web developer... Nice! More competition, cheaper prices, better products!

They do have quite a bit of catching up to do. It's not only a matter of huge data centers, it's software that they'll have to provide to make use of them. This is the hard part, IMO. Amazon has been in this IAAS business since around 2007, and they finally started putting some effort into an actual user interface. Creating everything via API can be a pain in a butt.

Yeah there site sucks but with their ucs and nexus platform along with UCS director, seriously its pretty slick. I so wish my company would have purchased ucsd and not the vmware piece of shit offering but hey the sales lady for vmware bakes a mean set of cookie.:D
