While I've considered the various 16:10 monitors in this size range, I am now looking at 16:9 monitors to see how they compare. Anyone have any recommendations? I don't want to spend more than $300 and I am looking for flicker free.

Right now the best 16:10 option is the Asus VS24AH-P with a VESA stand which doesn't have the ability to add black lines to a 16:9 source. The advantage of a 16:9 will be being able to hookup consoles (PS3, PS4, etc) to it.

1920x1080 (16:9), LED PWM Dimming Free (Side Effects) 22-23" IPS panels:

Use Google or Chrome to translate the reviews. They are all pretty similar, but the HP Envy 23" is the best glossy option while the Eizo EV2336 is the best non-reflective option and best monitor over all.

Acer H226HQL Glossy
Acer S236HLtmjj Glossy
Asus VX239H Matte
Dell P2314H Matte
Eizo EV2336 Semi-Glossy
HP Envy 23 Glossy

There's also the Dell P & U series 24", PC Monitors, TFT Central and =DEAD have reviews for these and I recommend using the thread search function and reading through the threads for the 24" since they have typical 'special,' Dell exclusive issues (pixel alignment?). The super slim monitors inner black dezel makes the monitors blacks look light when juxtaposed/displaying dark content. I would spend an extra 50$ on the EV2336 ([H] Thread).

The BenQ BL2411PT can scale 16:9 content properly.

I would also spend the extra $$$ for that Eizo, after the P2414H experience.

Is it too hard to save 80 more dollars? It's apparently a step above most (if not, all) in the $300 range.

You can spend $80 after that, and another $80 after that. $300 is my limit. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a monitor and didn't mind getting it from a place I can't easily return it if it has dead pixels, I'd get the BenQ BL2411PT.
