Gmail Is Out, Now It's Up, Down Again

My yahoo mail is working fine...

If Gmail is so much better why is it always the one Steve is posting about being down...

Gmail handles millions if not billions of emails per day. I doubt a glitch causing "thousands" of emails to be sent would have caused this outage.

Unless of course other people were getting spammed by the thousands (e.g. DDOS)...

Everytime I see a news about it, I never had an issue personally.
And its not because you dont hear about Yahoo being down, that it isn't. Gmail is way bigger than Yahoo mail (more user, more feature, etc) so its normal you see more about it in the news...

My question is why the Google Mail Checker add-on for Chrome is so fucking buggy. I mean, it's made by the same company that produces the browser and the mail client, so you would assume it should work.

Oh nevermind, I forgot there are some really serious matters to attend to involving bus stops.

I would be very surprised if the number was not incher ever closer to a trillion. Gmail has almost 500m users. I would reason an average user receives about 10 read-worthy emails per day, and power-users (read: they subscribed to too many mailing lists) receive 100+. That's not to count just pure spam email asking to buy penny stocks or viagra, which makes up the vast majority of all email and no one ever even sees it anymore. You're looking at what I would estimate is on the order of 10s of billions of emails per day fairly conservatively.

Really? That's a joke, right? Yahoo Mail was down for a *WEEK* just last month, and that's the example you use as a reliable email provider?

Also the reason Google outages are news is because of how rare and unexpected they are.
