The Google+ notification system is now sending out invites to jail. ;)

For some, Google+ notifications are nothing more than an annoyance--a pointless disturbance from what many see as a social network "ghost town." But for Thomas Gagnon, an alert apparently coming from his Google+ account was enough to land him in police custody.

HAHAHAHA.

Was going to leave a comment on a youtube video a while back, and saw that it required me to set up a google+ account, so I said screw it.

I hate Google+ so much now. I can't even scroll through the Android app without seeing stupid suggestions on who to add, and I have no idea why it keeps showing me posts from communities that I've unsubscribed to weeks ago.

Wow that sucks lol.

Google+ creeps me the hell out. Google knows way too much about our personal lives than they should. My google+ which I was forced into, has all sorts of people in it that I know IRL that I never added. They were there from the very beginning. I like to separate my online life from my offline life but with G+ you can't do that because everything is linked and it's only safe to assume that everything you do gets broadcast to your "wall". I pretty much stopped using Youtube and google search because of that. Who knows what kind of crap it broadcasts to everyone.

In this case, how did Google know that person was his ex? That's creepy as hell.

As a devout user of Android, I hate Google+ with a passion. Probably more than I hate Facebook.

The guy should sue Google for this incident perhaps, maybe it'll get them to cut back on this bad habit of theirs.

Who said they knew it was his ex?

As it said is that "he" invited her to a group. It just so happened that she was his ex and she had a restraining order against him.

Well the system did know that he knew her IRL, that's what I meant. It then sends an invite on behalf of you.

Wow, I didn't realize ex's could screw a man over like that. Whether or not he sent it himself, that's pretty fucked up.

If it goes off your contacts not really. I would assume he emailed her at some point.

Maybe, maybe not. Now I am going to assume that there was a valid reason for the restraining order. People don't normally get those because they are board. Normally you see a woman get that when they guy was abusive, or when he won't stay away after th break up. Keeps calling, texting, emailing, stalking online.... So they seek legal help to stop the person and get them to leave them alone. Now assuming the restraining order had a valid reason to be issued then there is nothing fucked up about this. The fucked up part is guys (or girls) not taking it is over to mean it is over and thinking if they annoy the hell out of the person they will take them back. Last time I checked you needed a valid reason to get a restraining order so I am going to assume her reason for wanting one is warranted. Which means he broke the terms of the known restraining order keeping him from talking to her. Now the question is did he himself send her the invite or do something that would have caused it to send out the invite or did the system do it on its own.

I don't like the whole Google keeping information as a whole. With the new upgrades to Android they put into effect their Hangouts app and I hate that thing with a passion. I keep getting "hangouts" from what I guess are porn sites/girls. I know I can block them, but how the hell did they find me in the first place? I blocked and "me only'd" as much as I could. It's driving me insane. Google is getting to be very, very bad.

That's another thing, I have an Android too and I really wonder what kind of info it's gathering. Wonder if there are ways to secure it more or if there are ways to put a fully open source OS (not controlled by a company) on a phone. I'd have to run a packet sniff on my wifi to see what kind of traffic it generates.

Google+ seems harmless until your android phone decides to sync contacts with it.. 99% of my Google+ are people I have no idea who they are because anyone can add you..

I had to clear about 1000 numbers, mostly from [H}

Well I'm pretty sure you don't get a restraining order on you without a good reason.
Let's not forget how often people break these things and harm their targets anyways, there's no real value to one until the victim is dead or seriously injured then its something else to throw on a list of criminal charges once the offender's court date comes.

At least the judge was reasonable enough to admit that he doesn't know everything about Google, and he set a low bail.
