Who knew selecting a new CEO could be so emotional?

So much for the stereotype of the four-eyed nerd with a calculator for a heart. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates struggled to fight back tears as he told shareholders Tuesday that the company has met with "a lot" of CEO candidates in its hunt to find a replacement chief executive for the outgoing Steve Ballmer.

They should write a program to be CEO. They could have the first computer CEO.

Gates has plenty of kick left...he ought to come back. He's the only qualified candidate, and I'm sure those tears are of embarrassment because he knows it...;) What I'll never understand is what happened to the Ballmer responsible for Windows 7? Win7 is the most successful OS in Microsoft's history, and yet Ballmer comes along right after the historic Win7 and wants to reverse the whole thing with Windows 8--a touchscreen ui OS for non-touchscreen PCs. Somewhere, somehow, Ballmer lost his confidence and panicked and concluded that emulating Apple made sense. Go figure.
