Imagine all the things that the government could actually get done if they weren't so busy with this crap.

Law enforcement requests to Google have tripled in four years but we're still stuck with the same internet privacy law we had in 1986. If police need a warrant to open someone's mail than they should need one to rifle through someone's email, regardless of its age or if it's stored on a company's server. It's time Congress and the president updated (the) Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) so there's only one standard for government access to the content of our electronic communications: a warrant based upon probable cause. Anything less is indefensible.

The Patriot Act was an American crossroads, those in power had the freedom to choose from two clear paths.

The first path required the addition of judges which are specifically tasked with providing immediate accesss to warrants and rulings regarding legitimate security threats, in real time.

The second path required that the role of judges in obtaining warrants be relinquished by the judicial branch, and be placed at the whim of the executive branch, thus undermining the Constitution, compromising civil rights, and making a mockery of public accountability.

The first path is what the citizen desires, and deserves. The second path, is a wet dream for an authoritative government which has lost it's humanity long ago.

So now we live in a country where the Military Industrial Complex transitioned into the Law Enforcement Industrial Complex, which propelled by the drug war waged against American citizens became the Privatized Prison Complex, which is now transitioning to the Homeland Security Industrial Complex, which gives birth to the National Security Detention Center Complex.

It's a system meant to farm people, to extract and redistribute through political mandate the toils and labor of all the animals on the farm. All pay tribute to the age of Digital Blackwater.

But of course. NSA needs to know where all the good pR0n is.

but it's for the children, oops sorry that's the old one, now it's..... blah, blah, blah Terrorists, blah blah.

Be interesting to see how far the government can go before people actually fight back. This stuff is only going to get worse.

A new law would only change the way law enforcement works. The NSA would continue to do what they want when they want. Legally speaking, they have a license to spy - it'd take a major congressional collective to overturn or rewrite the laws they have the books. Not likely to happen.

And even more odd that this path was chosen by the political group that says it's for less government control.

"A new law would only change the law. However, the NSA are legally allowed to spy, so making a law that reverts that legality would change nothing."

What?

Solid post.

Nothing to do but sit back and watch it all unfold.

And complete Bullshit.

The United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC, also called the FISA Court) is a U.S. federal court established and authorized under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA) to oversee requests for surveillance warrants against suspected foreign intelligence agents inside the United States by federal law enforcement agencies.

The FISA Court is still under the judicial Branch and is not an Executive Branch entity.

They oversee requests for surveillance warrants against suspected foreign intelligence agents inside the United States No matter how much you want to be leave the BS that they are involved in issues concerning US Persons, they are not.

And your own complexes are getting the best of you.

And by the way. Since the FISA Court was created in 1978, and not as some reaction to 911 or from the Patriot Act immediately following the same. Do you have any examples of US Persons who have been wrongfully targeted by the NSA? Anyone? Is there someone who was sentenced to prison, fined, fired, any negative effect that you can point to where it has been shown that the NSA collected the information that was used against someone in some tangible way?

I respect those who have truly put their ass on the line,

Edward Snowden
Bradley Manning. (Having a hard time with the Chelsy thing, but my repect for him will force me to work through it.)
Daniel Ellsberg
Matthew Diaz
Gary Webb
The Tank Man of Tianamen Square

I for one can see a real legitimate application for a higher level of NSA surveillance.

Due to my own boneheadedness i lost my organized photography work over years of time. I still have most of the raw files but its not organized.

Now just imagine if i could call up the NSA and do a data retriever from my database they are continuously updating? Nobody would have to buy backup drives again!

It is high time all websites stop saving data that absolutely does not need to be saved and completely remove any systems that did save such data in a manor that removes the ability for them to be added back.

Or a new Chief Executive who they all work for.
