Not content with front door access, it looks like the NSA likes a little backdoor action too.

The National Security Agency has secretly broken into the main communications links that connect Yahoo and Google data centers around the world, according to documents obtained from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and interviews with knowledgeable officials.

Oh no!
The guys who are stealing our data and spying on us for our *own good* stole more data and info from the guys who are also prying on us and stealing our data *for profit*!
What on earth are we to do?!?!

One day, a future generation will come along and clean up the mess.

This gen aint it, or the next one.. that's for sure.

Doesn't matter. Corporations are people and people have no right to complain about the government violating rights.

Good thing the 4th Amendment never explicitly says anything about the internet, and hijacking traffic otherwise it might be violating some law.

Google & Yahoo will sue... all the lost revenue. They could have billed for that data.

What is interesting and curious is that they already had so much "bulk information" with PRISM, why did they feel the need to implement MUSCULAR? I'm sure Gibson will go over it if he hasn't already..

Burn it all to the ground and start over.

I love this trickle keeping stuff in the news...the sad part is that it is basically becoming "boring" to the average person and they just accept it and keep on with their lives.

This, if nothing else, is -extremely large gathering on washington DC- material...and at best we get 50k votes on a "please click for a generic response" website from the white house and more shit spewed.

.

It's like fuel prices. Go from $2.25 to $5/gal overnight and people will riot. Do it slowly over 3 years, and people will quietly complain, but later be thrilled when it's down to $4.50.

Yeah, people are dumb. Another "great generation" might arise, but we'd likely have to go through some very a tumultuous time as a country for that to happen. I guess when the debt and social security and all this other bloat that services us turns the government upside down, collapsed economy and all, then after that there might be some "rise from the ashes" action again. I'll likely be in the grave by then.

The US Government and it's henchmen cannot be trusted.

Now that the US populous has grown weary of decades of incessant wars the Military Industrial Complex has turned into a "Digital Blackwater" business model as shelter and solace.

I haven't seen evidence of the US populous growing "weary" of decades of wars.

In fact, the US populous appears to not mind it at all.

Hey, I always vote for the independent, the two party system isn't working and hasn't for over 20 years.
The Republicans and Democrats actually have the general population brainwashed into thinking that they're throwing their votes away when they vote independent for change instead of the lesser of 2 evils for Republican or Democrat.
There's only 2 ways things can change:
1: Vote out the people that keep dragging us into mess after mess and get rid of the Republicans and Democrats which takes time
or
2: Revolution which is instant and really messy
And our government is weary of #2 so they have the NSA up all of our asses, chomping at the bit to use the Patriot Act to get rid of those willing to be a part of #2 and the #1s that can really convince everyone we're better off without the rich controlling us all.

Republicans and Democrats have run this country into the ground, they are fully responsible. Neither party has any new to offer, just more squabbling over political power and personal gain.

NSA + illicit Surveillance programs + PMCs = very, very scary.

Stability is its own worst enemy. During times of conflict, all of these resources are focused outward on the extra-national threats. If those massive threats suddenly become less-so, the focus turns inward. So instead of them shoving electron microscopes up the Soviet's asses, we get the even more advanced and more powerful ones shoved up our own.

I'm convinced that we as a species are simply not ready to not be in conflict with one another. The period since 1945 has been the strangest in world history where major powers at most fought in proxy wars or against tiny regimes in order to have something to do. The good (or rather, very bad) news is that the fewer nuclear weapons in the hands of world powers, the more unstable and more willing to go to war those powers will become. Nuclear weapons are the ultimate form of leverage. Having tens of thousands at your disposal makes it clear that no war against you is worth it because all sides would be decimated. Combine these shrinking arsenals with a shrinking middle class that is necessary for long-term stability and you have a hell of a mess on your hands. Culturally, and psychologically, I simply don't believe we are currently capable as a species to not fight and that a great portion of the blame for our current malaise, confusion, and lack of direction is because we are in an unnatural situation where our hands are tied, metaphorically speaking. Thinking that we somehow, in less than 5 generations, have gone from world wars to world peace is naive on an incredible scale.

Google had no idea the NSA was tapping in, just like the French and Spanish governments didn't know...except they did

It's less painful for companies/countries saying "we had no idea" then it is saying "yeah, we let them in"

And I still cannot get Gamestop to confirm my billing address information, you would think with all of my personal information being shipped and sold around the world, they would get this right:rolleyes:

Doesn't change the fact, you vote to help democrats get elected. It really does work that way.

This video is all I need in order to demonstrate that the human race isn't responsible.

They always keep a black card up their sleeve. That way, they can one day say, "We shut down PRISM". /meanwhile, MUSCULAR, or whatever the next gay porn nom de plume is, is operating silently in the wings.

Plausible deniability is all they need to survive and maneuver.

This gen aint it, or the next one.. that's for sure.

This gen did its part and ushered the golden age of the net, but the next gen of tight pant wearing, apple-hoarding, bitch-looking pansies won't even be able to figure out how to wipe its own ass, much less figuring out a problem.

Gaining access to secure systems you are not authorized to view is illegal. Do something about it.
