Big test being conducted in the UK with ‘White Space’ spectrums that could potentially revolutionize networking spectrums around the world. Google and Microsoft have been the big push behind the UK trials, not that they would have any special interest in the project. :D

Right now, there are huge gaps in the US broadband map that will benefit hugely from white space network.

To explain why Google and Microsoft are involved.

Google and Microsoft both want to give people a free 3G/4G connection when people buy one of their devices, so you buy and android or win phone device and get free mobile internet.

Im all for free data.

Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile like to take that big gouge off people, but this is a major win for Microsoft and Google if it DOES pass, imaging just buying the phone device, having no service fee's and using google talk / voice for your IM, phone, and data needs.
