It's funny how these guys are all about the letter of the law....but only when it suits their needs.

Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm has sent an open letter to the Swedish Government urging it not to extradite him to Denmark next week. The neighboring country plans to put Gottfrid on trial in a hacking case similar to one that concluded in Sweden last month with his partial conviction.

But they never broke any laws in their country. It's like how Mark Emery of Canada is in jail in the USA for mail order marijuana selling. Everything Mark did was 100% legal in Canada. He filed his taxes with no hiding of what his source of income was, He broke no Canadian laws, yet was arrested by the Vancouver PD at the behest of the DEA.

We must be talking about different people. This guy is already tried and convicted for crime(s) in Sweden related to TPB and hacking, served his sentence and is now on his way to face charges in Denmark for the same stuff.

The hacking cases may or may not be true, but he has a history of not showing up to court.

Do you have a point here? If you operate in a country you are subject to their laws. If you try to evade the law by basing yourself in another country that is not an excuse, and it doesn't make anything legal. It just means you better know damn sure the country you are in is not cooperative with the country you are going to break the laws in.

it's not exactly like that

in this situation his computer was found by the appeals court to be compromised and open to be exploited remotely. the appeals court concluded that he could not be tried for the multiple offenses he was accused of because of the similarity of the cases--similar to our double jeopardy concerns in the US.

his second issue is that he couldn't read the search warrant that was served on him nor could he read the attachments supporting it because all of the evidence was in Danish.

I agree with your overall point that his conduct doesn't seem to rise to the level of criminality and he ought not be extradited at least until these two issues are addressed
