Nice to see HP finally accepting responsibility for its shortcomings. Just kidding, the company's CEO is still blaming everyone else.

"HP’s traditional highly profitable markets face significant disruption. Wintel devices are being challenged by ARM-based devices. ... We are seeing profound changes in the competitive landscape. ... Current partners like Intel and Microsoft are turning from partners to outright competitors."

It's going to take a long time before the death throws of HP are over and the company finally shuts down. In the mean time, we can laugh at the quips of the incompetent management.

Not sure I like her wording, but then again I have never been a large fan of her work. Microsoft and Intel are not really the problem as they are fighting with each other. The problem is both have high end cash cows they loathe to give up. Both are just having trouble handling the new markets.

Meg Whitman - the biggest idiot HP could find to run their company into the ground. Bravo HP, bravo.

It's true, that new Windows 8 core cpu from microsoft is going to compete with the Haswell OS and it's going to be a bloodbath!!!

Well they're right. Right now the biggest move for a company is to move towards ARM Android/Linux devices. But the moment you even try to, Microsoft and Intel will hate you and crank up the prices. The transition to ARM Android/Linux from Wintel will be a difficult one, cause even HP can't stop selling Wintel machines cold turkey.

At the same time Microsoft is trying to go solo with Surface devices, even though they're failures and will likely continue to be failures. Windows 8 isn't doing HP or any company any good, so they're literally lost as what to do. HP has a server market, which Intel seems to be taking away.

So yea, I don't see where the statement is wrong?

Intel and Microsoft are still very dependent for each other in their core areas of strength. Microsoft needs x86 CPUs for fast and powerful desktops and laptops and only Windows sells these kinds of devices in large numbers. And even in the emergence of tablets Intel and Microsoft need each other to sell x86 tablets, I don't see x86 having a lot of meaning in the Android tablet market, at least not any time soon.

These "frinenemies" relationships don't have to be contentious and if you look at a big one like Apple and Samsung, though that particular relationship is very contentions now both are benefiting.

The Surface Pro probably isn't a failure though. Doesn't sell in large numbers but still profitable. 8 is going to do as much good as a company it willing to run with it. Lenovo is the #1 PC OEM growing better than Apple in desktops and laptops and they have probably the most comprehensive line of Windows 8 devices of anyone.

Don't forget WEBOS, which they dumped likely because of the before mentioned reasons. The best they can do is make whatever devices they like and complain if they get their prices jacked up. That or simply wait things out. The problem is that other pc makers are making superior devices while they basically tread water.

If HP gets someone technically minded in charge someday, they may have a chance. The parade of bean counters who know nothing other than cutting cutting cutting cannot possibly result in a long term success story.

Competition is always good!!!!!!!!!

I think what happened to Compaq sucked.

Anyone remember when Compaq was the high end computer? First with a 386, then first with a 486? Always the fastest in comparisons, clock for clock.

HP used to known (still is) for the very best in test equipment.

So the took the best in two fields, merged them, and ended up with a reputation for being cheap stuff sold at Walmart.

The computer/tech industry is not controlled by market forces and is unrelated to free enterprise. The Chinese are destroying all competitors with the aid of US government leaders. Leo knows this and that is why he tried to eliminate the hardware business. To avoid the inevitable. A service only business might survive. IBM figured this out years ago.

Just look at the shoddy quality computers that the chinese are making for Dell, HP, and Toshiba. Then compare them to the good computers from Lenovo. Soon, Sony, Samsung, and the rest will also be destroyed. They may keep Asus and Acer alive for the appearance of competition.

The world is a very different place from what you guys think it is.

So because the Xbox One has an AMD APU...gotcha, Meg. Why don't you have a seat...eh, who cares, I'm getting drunk.

Lenovo is was founded in Beijing, so apparently they can make a quality product. The chinese would say it is not our fault that is what the consumer in these countries wants. If consumers stop buying by price alone and factored in quality. Yet everyone seems focused on lowest price. The other issue is with the brand vendors you have two firms trying to make profit on it. Dell, plus the real maker. Which inflates the prices so ...

With focus on lower prices, it is difficult to have middle men in-between. Dell for example is simply a brand and support structure at this point they do very little design work really. HP helped but a less nimble IBM out of the PC market, and now new firms are putting a flat footed hp out of the market. Just the way it goes.
