I'm actually surprised that Microsoft didn't already own this domain. The company should've known it would need it after everyone started calling it the "Xbone."

According to the latest WHOIS records, Microsoft Corporation is the name’s new owner. While it’s only speculation, it’s very possible the domain’s previous owner got an undisclosed amount of cash from Microsoft. And considering all the recent buzz this week, it probably wasn’t a small amount.

I think the real story here is why can't consoles come up with a name that makes sense. PS4, bam its obvious what it is. XBox One sounds like a service that goes with your current XBOX.

Don't get me started on Wii U.

Disclaimer- I'll probably still get the PS4 last due to my needs.

Microsoft has already shown they love random numbers for their consoles with the 360. And Nintendo just plain loves using as weird of a name as possible, such as your mention of the French police siren.

The idea is that this would be the ONE thing you need to control everything. That said... I keep seeing Xbone as some sort of porn movie name. You heard of the X-Games now we give you the X Bone!

It takes you to Bing: confused: Why wouldn't they at least have it take you to the Xbox site?

Mine would be 350k I would wait until the system was on sale. I think then I could get that much

should've just called it XBING, because, well let's face it.. thats where its headed

Microsoft needed a 3 in the model name so it wouldn't be perceived as being a generation behind the PS3.
Xbox One. Dunno, supposed to be all in one but reminds me of when the 360 came out and we referred to the original Xbox as the Xbox 1.

ms should probably also pick up xboner, xboned and lolfail.

It isn't so much that they come up with random numbers but that they create their names based on the idea they want to represent.

Xbox 360 was to represent that it was the center of your entertainment world (game, media, movies). So the 360 was to be a circle.

Xbox One is the represent an expansion on that and represent that it is now the ONE device that you need for your entertainment needs. movies, games, tv, media.

And a streaming box if you don't have Live

LOL. X-bone. Way to think passed your nose there MS. Can't believe nobody there didn't see XBOne written down somewhere and think, "man that looks kinda stupid".
