It looks like the MPAA is hiring again. If you can surf the web, download movies and "manipulate online media files," you can have an exciting career in the movie industry. ;)

In its ongoing war against online piracy, the MPAA is currently recruiting new soldiers. One of the open positions that caught our eye recently is that of an “Internet Analyst,” tasked with manipulating media files and monitoring social networks, communities and forums. For those still in school the MPAA also has a job opening for an unpaid summer intern to assist with various “content protection” projects.

MPAA just loves to burn that money they are so hard to capture from unknowning "plebs" that download movies.

“Internet Analyst,”

While they've got the right part of the body, the job title is wrong. :D

The industry model needs to change. Studios report profitability based on Box-office sales. If the movie doesn't have good theater sales, it's a flop and considered a loss. Disc-sales are second, nay, third fiddle. Rentals are even farther down the line.

I hope somebody with some brains in the industry could do some forward thinking and create an incentive for going to the theater and discouraging piracy in the same swoop.
All they would have to do to have a huge reduction in piracy and a huge increase in profits:
One FREE digital download with every theater ticket purchase!

Boom! All the problems are solved. I would definitely go to the theater more often, and I could get a legal digital version as well.
Heck, they could even make it a 2-movie tickets = 1 digital download in 1080p.
Why would I take my wife to the theater for $20 when we could just wait 4-6 months for the film to be out on Blu-ray?

But, until then..... we will just have to keep reading the news on their piracy campaign and figure out other ways to enjoy our home-built HTPCs. :D

Totally would be an awesome job to go after all those freeloaders and bitcoin users who don't wanna just pay for things they get online.

I'd like to see the ability to stream new, still-in-theater movies to my TV a la Netflix. If I could pay $15 and watch the film on my couch instead of dealing with crying kids, talking teens, and sick adults in a crowded atmosphere, I would be quite happy.

They actually already have this feature in several threatres including Cineplex theatres. When purchasing your ticket, you have the option to upgrade/buy a SUPER ticket (their term) for around three times the price of a regular ticket that lets you download the movie for free later when it gets released on VoD I think (slightly before dvd-release but not by much).

I don't think a lot of people are seeing that $29.95 price tag for a movie they've never watched and go 'Ohh, I want to already own this movie. I just KNOW fall of superman is going to be great!' ...2 hours later "WTF, was that? That wasn't superman..."

No, I'm saying normal movie ticket price. 3x the price is NOT "the same".

Digital downloads cost them NOTHING to manufacture. The small cost of bandwidth would be trivial. The whole point would be to get the pirates in. Hence, charging 3x the price isn't going to change anything.

Redeem 1 or 2 regular price movie tickets for a digital download WOULD increase theater attendance and box office sales numbers.

The biggest thing they could do to combat piracy is to offer a content delivery system that is fair, local, and easy to use.

People like owning things. Let people purchase digital content and have the ability to store it locally. Enough of this cloud BS. I want to access my digital content anywhere. I don't want to have an always connected broadband connection, nor do I want to have my bandwidth being hogged streaming shit.

Most of the streaming sites are easy enough to use at least. Technically however, you don't truly "own" any of the content you watch, and the ability to watch it goes away when you stop subscribing. Either that, or you get to watch ads.

Sadly, the best service that is fair, local, and easy to use is: bittorrent. Technically it is not fair on the other end of the spectrum, but from a consumer's point of view, it's far more appealing than the alternatives.

Dude, just stop, using "logic" for the mpaffia is forbidden.

These people lack any common sense and or logic to even remotely put such a system into play.

Digital Download with the theater tickets is a great idea.

A great idea to consumers but I don't think they see it that way. They would see this as abandoning part of their sales model which is;

Charge them at the Theater.
Charge them for the Disks.
Charge them for the streaming/DL service.

And if you think about it, it costs about the same for the first two and it will go up for the 3rd if they ever get solid control over the pirating.

They look at all of us as a source of profit. Some people go to the movies, some rent, some buy disks, some subscribe to online services and some pirate. They really don't see it as some do a little of each in different proportions although I don't pirate and I don't go to the theaters any more, I also don't go without and that's what they bet on. They bet on controlling all access and charging for all of it and if they lose money to pirates they will try to make it up by suing them.

If you want to clean all this mess up come up with a real alternative that will work and stop hoping they are going to give it to you for free.

maybe we can do something about all those pervert porn watchers while we are at it

Not a fan of the theater. Too much hassle. Would rather drink beer and eat pop corn in the comfort of my own home. Seeing how movies are ripped using HD cameras and put on the internet 6 hours after release....I wish they would just let you rent a movie at home on release day. I pirate new movies to avoid the theater and I don't like to wait. Am I a bad person? yes. Would I prefer to pay 8 bucks on release day for a HD stream instead of ripping a HD cam? yes. It's all about convenience for me. I don't want to be subjected to an additional three month wait because I do not enjoy seeing a movie in the theater.

Oh well those people are okay as long as they're not doing it in front of an Xbox One. We don't wanna upset anyone who might be spying on them.
