So my Dell 2405 recently blew out and I have been looking for a replacement. I used my 2405 for everything, including movies and games.

I have mostly been looking at the 2412m and the 2713hm but after reading the threads about them on this forum, I'm not so sure anymore.

Are they really that bad with the yellow bleeding, backlight bleeding and crosshatching? Is this happening to all revisions of these monitors or is one revision better than another? Which is the best revision?

What about the S2740L, is that one also plagued with problems?

I am used to (and prefer to) using only anti-glare monitors so I don't think that will be a problem.

I'm using a P2312H at work and I find that one decent, maybe I should just get one of those for home and wait for something better? I

The NEC EA244WMi & Samsung S24A850D are the only standard gamut 1920x1200 IPS/PLS panels with non-grainy matte coatings.

The Samsung does not use LED PWM dimming but has worse screen uniformity issues while the NEC can have cross hatching issues.

The HP ZR2440w now has the same coating as the NEC (the original did not), but there is no way to guarantee getting a newer version.

The U2412 and all of the other 1920x1200 monitors (except those mentioned above and the PA249Q but it is wide gamut) use a grainer matte coating vs. your current monitor.

All of Dells S2x40M/L monitors suffer from obvious ghosting (overshoot) and the S2740L's blacks look grayish since it uses edge-to-edge glass

I'm afraid that neither the NEC nor the Samsung are available in my region (Iceland). What about the P2412H, is it the exactly the same as the P2312H, just larger?

Is the U2312HM better than the 24" version?

Man this is so difficult. When I bought my 2405 6 or 7 years ago it was such an easy choice!

The P2412H appears to be a TN panel. I didn't even know it existed until you posted it just now ... sort of sneaky by Dell to use the same model number as their IPS 2412. I wouldn't suggest either of them though... one is TN (bad angles), and the other has a heavy antiglare coating.

Can you get HPs where you are? Perhaps you can find a ZR2440w with a recent revision, so it should have a light coating.

It may be easier if you can mention what brands you can choose from. If you can get Eizos cheap there, that is another option (at 23" and 27").

The ZR2440w is available, but since I can get a good deal on the Dell monitors it is almost 100% more expensive.

Eizo monitors are available, but they are pretty expensive.

I just checked out the U2412M and the U2713HM at the store today, both looked quite amazing. I didn't find anything wrong with the coating on the 2412. I do think I saw some crosshatching on the 2713, but I had to get close to the monitor and really look for it.

I guess that might all change once I get home and view it in a darker environment.

Is there a "best" revision of either of those monitors?
