There is a big difference between the old and new for this registry key UserPreferencesMask located at HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop. On 32-bit Windows, this is a 32-bit value. On 64-bit Windows, this is a 64-bit value. Example: 9012038010000000 (or 90,12,03,80,10,00,00,00) with 8 pairs of 2 instead of 4 pairs of 2.
I've been Googling a lot trying to figure out how to determine what options are actually set by the above example. I found a resource at MSFN forums with a text file attachment, but I am unable to download it because I am unable to login or register an account due to an IP Driver/database error message that the forum produces, so I am not sure if this text file has what I am looking for.
You can find the Microsoft TechNet documentation for the 32-bit version of this registry key at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc957204.aspx. It is no use. From my research, such as at https://social.technet.microsoft.co.../thread/d95ce351-ef0c-415d-ac55-80553b74ce52/, the values for the 64-bit version of this registry key are totally and entirely different from the 32-bit version; the same values do not enable the same functions.
So, I'm kind of at a moot point.
I don't know where to go or how to reverse engineer this 9012038010000000 value to know what it is applying and doing.
