Japan will be the next country to get into the exascale computing business, with the goal of one exaflop by 2020, becoming the most powerful supercomputer in the world. Funding for the project has already begun and is expected to raise the estimated $1 Billion dollars jointly from the Japanese government and worldwide corporate investments.

The paper’s authors estimated that the 100W of power to supply 10 Teraflops on a chip would be dwarfed by the 2000W of power required to supply memory bandwidth to the floating-point units.

Being that Intel had working Haswell chips in 2011 I bet they could hook up Japan with some Broadwell-E chips and get Nvidia to throw in some Maxwell cards...

Why would Intel supply them chips form the "cyber pearl harbor" they're hearing up for

Future [H] News:

"Japan's Exascale Computer experienced a power outage today. Sources have confirmed the interruption was caused by one Steve from Computer Hardware Enthusiast site, [H]ardOCP on tour at the facility. Sources are telling us Steve tripped over a power cord yet didn't tell anyone for fear of revocation of his cafeteria and weight room passes.

Japanese officials are currently deliberating appropriate punishment. Rumors of "Death by Sushi" - being beaten with a live fish - have been circulating but are unconfirmed at this time."

:p :D
