Japan will be the next country to get into the exascale computing business, with the goal of one exaflop by 2020, becoming the most powerful supercomputer in the world. Funding for the project has already begun and is expected to raise the estimated $1 Billion dollars jointly from the Japanese government and worldwide corporate investments.
The paper’s authors estimated that the 100W of power to supply 10 Teraflops on a chip would be dwarfed by the 2000W of power required to supply memory bandwidth to the floating-point units.
