I tried to install Linux and Windows 7. Linux installs but won't boot after the install (just goes to the BIOS, exit the BIOS, goes back to the BIOS).

Tried to install Windows 7, will not boot the installer simply enters the BIOS.

Before doing anything of course I created the recovery USB. Which of course refuses to boot and it just enters the BIOS and enters the BIOS again once you exit it.

Will Microsoft ship you a Windows 8 disc? Can I just download a Windows 8 disc and install it?

First off, did you disable Secure Boot?

The Surface Pro doesn't have BIOS compatibility AFAIK. Did you install Linux with elilo or whatever EFI compatible bootloader they're using these days?

If you're trying to install 7 from a usb key, you'll need to make sure you have the EFI stuff copied right. The bootable thumbdrive making program from Microsoft won't work. I think the thread in the OS forums has the right info somewhere in it.

What's with trying to install 7 and Linux? Maybe use Hyper-V to get your alternative OS kicks once you get it working again?
