We hate pirates just as much as the next guy but suing someone three times for the same thing seems a bit excessive. ;)

A Comcast subscriber from Washington State has been sued in three different lawsuits for downloading the animated kids movie Zambezia. In other words, the same IP-address is being sued thrice for the same alleged offense. Are the makers of the film trying to beat the odds by filing multiple cases for the same offense, or is it just another example of shameful sloppiness?

With dynamic IP assignment, it could be three people. Better sue them all just to be safe.

Sounds like the lawsuits are generated by an algorithm. Or the company is just a horrible one.

Whole thing sounds like bullshit. What happened to "6 strikes"?

Just FYI "double jeopardy" only applies to criminal law, ie, the government during you. It does not apply to civil law.

Double jeopardy only applies to criminal law but the concept exists in civil law, as well. It's called "collateral estoppel."

These lawsuits claim to be for "downloading".

What they really are is for seeding/sharing.

Moral of the story - limit your upload speed in your torrent client to something far below what it is downloading at, and set it to not seed once it is finished downloading.

This won't apply if you're utilizing private trackers that require seed ratio above 1.0 or 2 weeks at the minimum.
