Thursday brought news from Oracle that the expected release of Java 8 slated for September will be delayed until sometime in Q1 2014. The delay is to give the company time to address new security concerns.

"Looking ahead, Oracle is committed to continue fixing security issues at an accelerated pace, to enhance the Java security model, and to introduce new security features. This work will require more engineer hours than we can free up by dropping features from Java 8 or otherwise reducing the scope of the release at this stage.”

In other words, they are spending so much time patching a ridiculous amount of security holes in Java 7 that the completion date for Java 8 has slipped.

More like taking bids for a new company to bundle slimeware into the install. Will it be a toolbar, AV, or something else this time?

The security holes are left in place so they can have many patches so people accidentally install a toolbar.

Since theyre busy patching all the holes in 7, they need time to find new ones to create for 8.

I haven't loaded Java on a machine in 6 years. Don't miss it. Don't want it. It should die in a fire.

I'm sure that everything will be much more secure with the new release date and there won't ever be another Java-related security hole after these new security concerns are addressed in Oracle's usual half-ass manner.
