At IDF Beijing, Intel launched the Intel® HTML5 Development Environment that provides a cross-platform environment to develop, test and deploy applications that can run across multiple device types and operating system environments as well as be available in various application stores. Based on web standards and supported by W3C, HTML5 makes it easier for software developers to create applications once to run across multiple platforms. Intel continues to invest in HTML5 to help mobile application developers lower total costs and improve time-to-market for cross-platform app development and deployment. Developers can access the Intel HTML5 Development Environment from the Intel® Developer Zone at no cost.

I went to the Intel website and tried to download the software, but the download button gave me an "about:blank" page. Not a good sign for a company purporting to offer an HTML5 development environment. I'm using Firefox 20 on Ubuntu.

The "download to desktop" link gives me a "website not available" on Chrome. This is the link: http://xdk-software.intel.com/distribution/XDK.jnlp

The Chrome addon link (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/intel®-xdk/onmkoldigcfmebcinpmineoadckalllb) works though.

The article DID say that it's launched in Beijing. I'm not in Beijing. ;)

From the Chrome addon page: It says if the addon isn't working from your browser you can launch the app using this link: http://xdk-software.intel.com/distribution/XDK.jnlp

Oddly enough the link worked fine from the Chrome addon page but not from the Intel site. Another note: it pestered me about Java being outdated and should be updated. If the link doesn't work for you, you might want to try that. Maybe lower your browser security some too, seeing how this is a Java program.

Keep any chairs away from Ballmer. Trust me on this one.

:p
