International Game Developers Association has a new set of rules for its parties. I personally didn't see the list but I have a feeling "no scantily clad women, strippers, escorts or prostitutes" will be one of the new rules. :(

During the week of GDC, the International Game Developers Association threw a party that featured underdressed, dancing women as part of the entertainment, prompting two IGDA members to resign and Executive Director Kate Edwards to issue a statement of regret. Today, Edwards defined a new set of regulations for future IGDA gatherings, starting with the goal to cut back on "parties" and instead offer more "networking events."

Always more rules to overcome someones lack of common sense. If it's a professional event, strippers are a no-go. Unless it's political, then it's ok.

Depending on the audience, strippers/dancers would be fine. Throw in a Mormon or a woman, and it's a no-go. Just use common sense.

Mormons have no nudity? How do you suppose a Mormon changes clothing or bathes?

It was meant as more of an example of a more conservative person with high Christian values. That type of person. Strippers are usually not on the top of their agenda.

Couldn't they just simplify this down to:

If you have a professional event with a large audience do not do anything that you wouldn't want your Mother or your Shareholders to find out about

or the alternate

If you can't explain to the shareholders or the company board why you did something ... DON'T DO IT

There were dancing women, but the women were not prostitutes nor were they scantily clad.

How about this, they're adults, you let them throw parties as they see fit. Now if you have a bunch of hookers and it offends women developers or feminazis who are trying to make a name for themselves then that's the shit you have to deal with. Others who have no booth babes, just showing off the goods (the nerd version) will be more to their liking.

I mean shit this is how E3 became so big, booth babes were a known factor, that is the big reason why people go, they are known for it. Let it end there and worry less about offending the sensibilities of a gender (or fancy lad) who by definition makes no sense.

Wait, what about women? Not every woman on the planet has a problem with nudity. You guys would have a hard time sowing your wild oats if that were the case.

So, no fun at the official parties. Should a group decide to attend a private party or head to a strip club, that should be fine.

Protip: One doesn't have to travel all the way to a computer trade show to find boobies. ;)

It gets the name of the company out there, too. You get the talk of "Did you see the EVGA babe? Nice!". Instead of a boring show where 85-95% of the audience is male nerds that like boobies, you get a nice, memorable show where people remember your name.

There was also the party that supposedly had paid escorts too.

Escort. Such a loaded word. They were paid to socialize with people at the show, much like PR people are. Are you calling PR people whores? ;)

My wife would happily go to such an event if there were both scantily clad men and women there. That way, no one's left out.

Why not just institute Sharia Law and leave it at that.

All women must cover themselves in burkas, no alcohol, and everyone must refrain from smiling or having any fun whatsoever.

I always see them in suits and skinny ties. I'm pretty sure they don't do either.

They have special undergarments that they wear called "temple garments". Mitt Romney wears them under his business suit. I'm pretty sure they take them off for sex and baths, though.

No throw in 2 Mormons
How do you keep a Mormon from drinking all yuor beer on a fishing trip - invite a second Mormon

I think the focus back on making connections and such would be great.

Yea, but it depends on if it's a meeting or a party. Party to me = socializing and NOT work. Meeting, convention, etc. means work, networking.

Personally, I'd love to hit one of their old parties. No networking, really. Just a get together for some fun times with people with common interests. Watch some ladies, drink some beer, talk games. Sounds like a great time to me.

That's how it works in other countries. You have the main party for business/networking type crap, then afterwards a more "casual" party where everyone gets drunk and whatever. So you get the "work" done in the more formal setting and the other stuff done in the second.

Apparently nobody informed these people that "convention" = "party".

I hate to break it to them, but the video game industry is really not deeply in need of "networking". In fact, the vast majority of the industry is based entirely in a creative process resulting in a proprietary product, meaning the LAST thing you need is "networking".

I've got a general rule for events like that. Even if it's meant to be a professional networking event, if the music is too loud to carry on a conversation at a reasonable level, fuck it, I'm gettin' hammered and tearin' the roof off this bitch.

This is true, especially the the bevy of gentlemen's clubs in most cities... however if you have to go to a trade show... go to one with boobies.

Free boobies >>>>>>> incredibly overpriced boobies

I wonder which part was the problem, the dancing, or the women.

Maybe it would be okay to have dancing man with hairy legs instead :p

Have these guys seen a video game since they could depict women in more that 16x16 sprites?

Or is targetting that next?

Man, I hope the people behind this never get over to any automobile shows.

Also, don't these folks understand what these shows are all about? Advertising and excitement. A pretty girl to help promote your stuff, okay. Strippers, I don't know. GTA, sure. Halo? Probably wouldn't work so well.

I guess it just seems like common sense went elsewhere.
