Microsoft announced this week that as of next Tuesday, all support for Office 2008 for the Mac will end. The end of support means no patches, support or new software will be available, but Office 2008 will continue to function as usual.

This announcement does not mean you have to upgrade your version of Office right away, but Microsoft is encouraging Office 2008 users to try Office 365, which comes with a subscription at $100 per year or $10 per month

No big deal. It is a 5 year old product after all.

Given that Apple has stopped supporting OS X on a good portion of its 2008 hardware this doesn't seem like a big deal. Any Mac user worth his salt is either buying whatever box with an Apple logo was just released yesterday to show how ahead of the times he is, or is running a Mac from 1996 to prove he's not 'mainstream'.
