Ok sold off my 3 GTX480 partially due to financial reasons (could not tolerate heat any longer) for $175 each so it's not so bad, have pulled out my old GTX260 216sp running in SLI, runs quite good, high to ultra with TR and high in FC3 but I can't stand no DX11 settings in some of my games that give me the nice visuals. Alternatively I built a rig for a friend which consisted of a 3770 and a DirectCU 7950 3GB card and I must admit it's a pretty fast card.

My current rig is a i7 960 @ 4.2 (980x dead), R3E + 24gigs of RAM, 14TB worth of hdd's, Enermax Revo 85+ 1250watt PSU. Is it worthwhile for me to sell off the main parts of my system and go for Haswell when it comes out or a cheap 2011 platform with parts from today or should just throw in another new graphics card?

Gaming only on a single 22inch 1680x1050 res and I don't plan on ever going onto multi-display setups, possibly a single 27/30inch sometime in the future.

An i7 960 is about as fast as a 2500K, which is fine for current games. You can get a 7950 now and upgrade to Haswell when the time comes. Honestly unless you're upgrading monitors soon you don't even need a 7950. A 7850 or 660 would be fine.

I feel at times I'm being hampered by my 960 in terms of performance. Another side note to add is that I like to max all the graphics settings of the games I play.

A 7950 can max all games at that resolution with a 2500K. Maybe not Crysis 3 but I would think damn near at worst. I have a 7950 and run 1920x1080. Usually just high settings with sweetfx for aa but I get 90-180 fps in bf3 for example and crysis 3 runs fine around 70 fps average at high settings.

A 2500k will average about 7800 3Dmark 11, while a 3930K will average about 8500. i7 960 scores are hard to come by.

I'd get the video card first and sell your 960 if you're not getting 60fps min with the new card.

After you're running at 1440/1600 you'll need to upgrade your CPU and add another video card to maintain 60fps min.

I think I'll just scrap off my rig before the value depreciates even more, I will just keep my case, ram, psu and hdd's. Sell off the cpu and mobo.
