Rovio, DreamWorks to Launch 'The Croods' Mobile Game

Once again Rovio is proving to doubters that the company wasn’t just a one trick pony with its monster game of Angry Birds. Rovio has partnered up with Dreamworks to create The Croods, a free-to-play game to be released on iOS and Android on March 14th. You have to admit is a great way to promote the upcoming movie of the same name due out on March 22nd.

Free-to-play, is that code for pay-to-play, which is code for pay-to-win?

So it'll be a re-skin of Angry Birds with Croods characters.

Well, it's not the first time we've seen a game based on a movie. I haven't played any game based on a movie (that I can remember), but they typically seem to score low on reviews. If it's free to play, the situation changes: if the game sucks, people won't mind--just like the toys in a Happy Meal are lower-quality than something comparable you can pick up at Toys R Us. Secondly, this is marketing, like other game-movie tie-ins.

It's about marketing the movie, and if the game scores some cash, even better.
