Am I the only person that read this story and still can't figure out why a twelve year veteran of the force was suspended without pay over this?

Confluence is a pretty little town banking on its spectacular scenery to bring in tourists to spend money. So when a photo of Police Chief Tom Keller and a woman brandishing firearms appeared online, it wasn’t exactly the kind of “come on” that’s appreciated.

Cop shoots innocent suspect, stays on force with pay. Cop puts up photo, oh no he didn't! Just wow.

Yep. It reminds me of that cop that shot someone's dog, then some dude (and killed him) that he pulled over. Later on, he shot another person's dog and told them not to worry about it, they can always get another dog.

Holy shit, Facebook photos! The girl with her finger on the trigger is the most worrying part even if it's unloaded. I don't see the rest of the problem there though.

Stay the fuck off Facebook and keep stupid poses & acts the fuck off there.

Was he suspended for lying? Because the skinny one is clearly a man, not "a woman brandishing firearms"

Embarassing, yes.
Not in the best taste, yes.
Lacks a little judgement, yes.

using the ......my account was hacked logic......who was that congressman who texted photos of himself? blaming some "hackers"? Guy from NYC, right?

Lose your job over this? Not that serious, IMO.

he needs to apply at the LAPD.. they can get away with a lot more over there I hear.

Love how it's being blamed on hackers now.

Get caught with kiddy porn, oh it's research for a book I'm writing
Get caught with a picture that you shouldn't have posted, god damn hackers got me!

Weiner? He actually chased a bunch of underage women on twitter which was pretty embarrassing. Also, it turned out about half of those he was following were fake underage girls though and there's a conspiracy by idiots on the web claiming "conservatives were out to get him" type of crap.

Other than looking "Wal-mart 2am shopper", I don't see why this is a big issue.

Don't forget Anthony Weiner was married to one of Hilary's aids and he sent a picture of his dick to someone on FB. Then he lied and lied about what happened until he was cornered and still pointed fingers.

This cop, in my eye's, has done nothing wrong, but obviously hasn't used the best judgment when posting photo's. Nonetheless there's nothing really incriminating about the photo.

What people do in their private life shouldn't affect their work, I'm tired of reading about "xx did this while not at work, so lets fire them."

I think he got suspended because of that butterface in the pic with him. Ride the moped and have fun just don't get seen on it pal.

That's the first cop that I genuinely felt sorry for. Yes, they do a lot of bad things that they shouldn't do because they are in a position of power. But taking a picture while posing with your girlfriend doesn't count as one. Those people in that town are just too uptight!

What if that butterface is his wife? (I don't know if it is).

Maybe cause it looks like he is stone cold drunk or high... i mean just look at him. as for the woman... no comment. that's probably safest. But for a tourist location, yeah I wouldnt want to go to a place that had a police chief that could be high/drunk playing/posing with guns.

I dont have a problem with folks posing with guns... but at least dont look like a thug or drunk/high while you do so.

I'd hit that....Anyways for someone with 12yrs experience to be fired for that is stupid, anyway to fire someone and not pay them pentention to have some kid take his job for 1/4 the pay lol

Working off this premise, is there any chance we can put the president on administrative leave because of that picture of him with the shotgun?

They'd get out of that claiming it's unconstitutional to do that.

Yeah, I really don't see what the big deal is all about. Yeah, he's a public figure and should use better judgement before posting pics like that but it's not like he's doing anything illegal. I'm sure lots of police have pictures of them doing dumb things that just never made it online.

Give him a month off to think about it... tell him to keep personal pics like that off the internet, period, and let everyone go about their lives. It'd be a stupid reason to fire someone.

Welp! He shouldn't have though unless there's more photos that actually are troublesome of his conduct?

And they say the pen is mightier then the sword, more a picture is worth a job in this case..

I like the quote from the chief:
A friend that was at our house the whole night called and asked when we took this pic. I don't remember.

If you don't remember, then it probably means because you were drunk - which is not a time to be "playing with firearms."

I also love that the town mayor had a "Vietnam Veteran" hat on, and the "person on the street" they interviewed had an NRA hat on.

Playing devil's advocate here, id say a Police Chief that would allow himself to become so intoxicated that his judgment becomes compromised is pretty worrisome. Not to mention, as a police chief your held to a higher standard then most officers, which means rookie mistakes like becoming drunk and allowing someone to handle a police issued firearm in an unsafe way shows that he is in a position of authority that he can't handle.

Today's world demands that you uphold your employers standards and values even when your not at work...which sucks if you are a free spirited person working for an uptight company.

Disclaimer: I do not agree with his punishment at all, what happens in your free time should be your choice as long as it doesn't impact your employer negatively. To be honest though, this guy looks like the dude off Tropic Thunder that was in charge of demolitions, aka a tool.

Doesn't looking like "a tool" in public negatively impact your employer? If he really was hacked then maybe it wasn't in public - but I really doubt that.

ROFL he looks like every other college drop out that made it through police training down to the sleeveless shirt to show off that badass flame tatoo and we can't leave out the obligatory 2 dollar crack whore looking barfly. Small town america, the last refuge of the not so uncommon underachieving white trash. Stay classy.

I'd be embarrased if my tax dollars were paying the salary of a troglodite such as him and I lived in the same town.

Other than the chick having her finger on the trigger (as a couple others have noted), there's nothing wrong here......

He's a cop......in a picture with guns.......the horror.............

You can't even get drunk and party with a tranny without losing your job now days.

What's this world coming to?:(

With the guns being used in a playful and un-serious manner. Guns are not fucking toys, they are not fashion accessories, they are tools to deal out death.

Don't forget the quote from the interview: "These photos are out there on Facebook now, there's THOUSANDS of people on there that could see them.'
