Are you ready for Farmville: The TV Series? Zynga is striking while the iron is still hot and taking the FarmVille brand to new markets according to the Wall Street Journal. The series has already made the big jump from Facebook to board game last year.

"FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience”

Farmville is a far more popular game than pretty much anything else out there except the mega hit Angry Birds series. Console and PC games just don't come close to how many people are playing Zynga stuff so it's no surprise that it is going to be expanded into new markets. It's funny to see small budget investment games like Farmville totally demolish mega money, huge production first person shooters. Then again, the whole FPS concept is ancient and it's always the same old game every single time. People get bored and the market it really tiny compared to casual games.

Now we have to provide FACTS in our arguments :eek: ... when did that happen :confused: ... you miss one meeting of the rules committee and this is what happens :p

Personally I think Farmvile is preparing us all for our future retirement ... we are learning to grow our own food ... we are learning to plant GMO crops that mature in hours instead of weeks ... we are learning to beg every friend and acquaintance we even partially know for assistance ... perfect training :cool:

No winning or losing

eh whatever... it kind of points towards the direction television has been going. The Discovery Channel, The "Learning" Channel, National Geographic, hell A&E seem to have devolved into having this stupid "reality" TV shows regardless of the actual real nature of it.

I can make a tv show of me tending to my greenhouse veggies... but that shit would be boring as hell.

Facebook isn't required. Aside from that, you other complaints are maybe valid for you, but for the millions of people that do play Farmville, clearly aren't valid to them.
 
Should make it have adience participation! The farmer is making their farm and then they need a cow, so they post to an interactive facebook page and you all need to log in and poke it and give them a cow so that the film can continue...:p

The people Farmville appeals to aren't those gamers who would play FPS games anyway.

Farmville isn't a replacement for PC or console gaming, its in a completely different market catering to the non-gamer crowd, which is basically everyone else hence its wider audience. So you can't say it destroyed FPS market, that would be like saying Android destroyed the enterprise server OS market, its two completely different thing.

Just because his complaints may not be valid to the people that play Farmville still doesn't make it any less retarded. Plenty of people thought at one point that Jews were the ultimate evil and were killed by the millions. Remember World War 2? Yeah, a lot of Germans agreed with Hitler among many other nations around the world (HELLO MIDDLE EAST!!!). Does that make it OK? Of course not.

People, even by the masses, can partake in fucking stupid things. Now as to the reason for that whether it be ignorance, brain washing, not thinking for themselves, etc STILL doesn't make it right.

It is just like every other grind type game on Facebook like Mafia Wars and ALL the other games that are THE EXACT SAME with just DIFFERENT THEMES.

All this T.V. show does it force this pointless crap down peoples throats in hopes that it will drag MORE people to this useless crap "game". Sure, people can decide not to watch it and ignore it and see it for the stupidity that it is but OBVIOUSLY the general public is not that bright.

I actually liked farmville. There was something about being better than all of your friends, in a game that takes around 20 minutes a day to play.

Having said that, how the fuck can you serialize something as boring as farmville, to the TV format?

With GOOD games you get to have an interactive story line with interesting compelling complex characters and get to explore new worlds, blah, blah, blah...same applies to other leisure activities.

Just because things are in the same category doesn't make one any more or less dumb than the other.

Sports for example has you doing physical activity and has a level of personal physical contact and interaction with other people around you. Keeps you healthy, keeps you active, keeps you social. Farmville does none of these things.

You saying that sports are just as pointless and dumb as Farmville? I mean, I don't even care for sports on the whole but even I would much rather have sports than mind numbing pointless Facebook "games".

All Farmville does is rot your brain and makes you bother other people who don't give a damn for extra coins and other useless BS.

Of course, in the end, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can do what they want. As I said before though, doesn't make it right!!!
 
Reminds of how porn went. Least the 70's and 80's porn movies had a loose plot (much like computer games). Now most of porn is just the sex act and little more.

Farmville is just a short porn clip.

Um...hi Joe. Most of these arguments can apply to anything people do for fun including pretty much all video games out there. What I think more accurately demonstrates shortcomings with human intelligence and society are very outspoken rants against something that a person can easily avoid and are in no way being compelled to partake in or rants that equate a video game they don't like to the things Jewish people suffered through in World War II.

whether the game has a story or not doesnt mean it holds any more entertainment value for a particular person... besides what metric is there that you would use to measure entertainment value? Just because you are engaged or not by a game doesnt mean it is more or less of a time waster,

Hmmmm ... maybe we need disclaimers at the start of the game porn titles (like Farmvile) similar to what they have at the start of porn DVDs (or so I've heard ;) ) ... Warning, this title is meant for the purposes of entertainment only. Situations portrayed in this game are meant to entertain and are not reflective of real life. Real gaming requires thinking and complex interaction. All programmers were over the age of 18 at the time of this title's programming ... :D:p

Oh and for the record JoeUser, i dont see the point in farmville either. i have never played it, and never will. And if a tv show comes out i will probably not watch it as well

Dude, that game has been out and we've all been forced to play it annually since the inception of the 16th Amendment in 1913:

Roll a D20 and record your results at the bottom of your tax form. You get anything but a natural 20 and it's a critical failure. :p
