To stem the huge losses of vast tracts of rain forest timber, the Brazilians are fitting trees with electronic tracking devices in danger areas that will ‘call home’ when moved with 20 miles of a cellular network enabling police to apprehend the illegal loggers and stop any further destruction.

The largest rainforest on Earth, the Amazon is home to an incredible wealth of species and numerous indigenous tribes. The forest is also a vast carbon sink, a major source of freshwater, and has an important impact on regional weather patterns.

Don't they realize that one of the first things a logger does is remove the branches of a tree before they can load it for transport. It's kind of hard to stack a bunch of trees if they still have those pesky branches.
How exactly will having a cell phone attached to the branches, to track when the tree is moved, help if the branches do not move?
 
i vote for genetically engineered trees that spit out poison darts that insta-kill anyone they hit with it.. that'll show em
 
with a 1 year battery life.. Sounds like it would get pretty expensive to maintain..

As if anyone go to jail when breaking the law around here. Well, except for the very poor of course. If you can afford a lawyer, you can literally get away with murder here, unless you have a gun and manage to kill a criminal. Then it's hell unleashed, how dare you defend yourself! Guns are banned here, but criminals still get them. You shouldn't, because hey, don't react if anyone attacks you or your family. Just be nice and wait until he stops, right?

They just want everyone to think they give a fuck about it. Unfortunately It's all a big smoke screen. In the end the guys that are cutting the forest left and right are the same ones that have a lot of money, and most people, when caught, get in and out of jail in no time, again, and again, and again...

TL;DR: nothing to see here, move along.

Just another move to fatten someone's wallet. I'm sure the devices will cost 3-4x the original cost projection, then no one will hear a peep about this project afterwards.
