I'm not sure how filing patent lawsuits against Apple turns into an antitrust case against Samsung, but that is exactly what is happening here.

The European Commission is set to charge South Korean electronics group Samsung in an antitrust patent case, the European Union's competition chief Joaquin Almunia said on Thursday. The EU competition watchdog is investigating whether Samsung broke EU competition rules by filing patent lawsuits against Apple.

Need to fill EU coffers in the name of protecting EU consumers from Samsung who is trying to protect them from Apple.

Oh yes, the evil EU again :D

Sometimes EC does some pretty stupid shit, though.

Honestly, GTFO EC. "Wanting more cash for frivolous expenses" shouldn't equate to "Throw lawsuits & massive fines at <insertrandommegacorporationhere>"

Lord almighty, this is just getting stupid now. I can't believe what business has come to now. I think companies/agencies do more posturing than actual work anymore it would seem.

If Samsung wouldn't have tried to ban Apple devices due (F)RAND patents, they wouldn't have a problem with EC.

Sounds like Apple has a paid mole to bring these charges against Samsung cause this is BS

If Apple was willing to pay to license those FRAND patents then Samsung wouldn't have gone looking for a ban. As is, they put the products to market and sometimes refuse to pay when companies come knocking. Samsung is one of the companies that, because of competition between them, they refuse to negotiate with reasonably. They approach the situation as if they're the ones with the power when it is the other way around. Unfortunately, they have very good lawyers and lots of clout so sometimes the court decides they're right when they're refusing to pay for FRAND patent use. It makes no legal sense, but the courts decide it anyway.

That is all nice and cool, but if the FRAND licence holder is not allowed to do that, then that results in a punishment, even if the initial reasons were acceptable. Laws are not always driven by logic ;).
