A 16 year old Dutch teen was able to dupe 20k Twitter account holders into giving him permission to post to their accounts just to show them how easily their accounts can be compromised. He accomplished this by trickery of the worst kind: open and honest information.
The prank does illustrate a wider privacy problem in both social media and mobile apps. Many request permissions they don't strictly need to perform their core functionality and these permissions can be abused, threatening user privacy in the process.
