Linux bug - Ivy Bridge

Looks to be a bug in the 3.2 kernel (or at least the Ubuntu version of it...). It doesn't identify the specific bug though. Blog gives instructions for upgrading to 3.3 via .deb's.

Can you summarize the problem?

The system freezes randomly and requires a hard reset. Seems to effect processors with HD 4000 graphics (Ivy i5 and i7) and Linux Kernel 3.2.x.

A guy had a similar problem - see this recent thread. Some maniacs in that thread suggested de-lidding as a solution, when a kernel upgrade will likely take care of the problem! I sent a PM to the OP so hopefully he'll report back.

Strangely, I am running Debian 7.0 on kernel 3.4 and still having the issue.

Here's the setup:
Kernel and CPU Linux 3.4-trunk-amd64 on x86_64
Processor information Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3960X CPU @ 3.30GHz, 6 cores

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Since you do not have an ivy-bridge with integrated GPU, I do not believe you have the same issue.

It seems that may be freezing because I'm actually using an unstable kernel. I'm going to work on finding a more stable kernel for Debian 7.0

The freezing for my machine happens once every 1-3 weeks. It is the exact symptoms, the reset button does nothing and I have to power cycle the machine.
