IBM has introduced what some analysts are calling the world’s fastest commercial processor. The zEnterprise EC 12 clocks in at 5.5 GHz, boosting system performance by 25% over the previous system. And yes, this one can run Crysis. :D
Overall, IBM said the new mainframe is delivering as much as a 45% improvement for multithreaded Java workloads, 35% in compute intensive, C and C++ based applications, and as much as 30% for transaction and transactional DB2 and relational analytical applications, as well as SAP workloads.

Other than the fact they both execute instructions, there is no similarity. It's a custom processor designed specifically for IBM's mainframe applications.

Actually, it is a PowerPC A2 processor descendant.
You are right though, most PowerPC processors are not interchangable instruction-wise due to architecture changes/revisions though.
