Somehow the news that takedown requests are up 100% in a month doesn't seem like a big deal after seeing a headline like this.

The massive wave of DMCA takedowns sent by rightsholders to Google in recent months is growing at an astonishing rate. During the past month the number of takedown requests received by the search giant doubled to almost 1.5 million URLs per week. To put that into perspective, exactly one year ago weekly URL takedowns numbered just 131,577 per week, an increase of 1,137%.

Pretty soon the RIAA and MPAA will have internet searches ruled illegal.

Because Google is going to start ranking search results penalizing sites with too many takedown requests. So the RIAA/MPAA/Fox/NBC/CBS/.... are getting their requests in.

Just wait until the political shills start doing takedown requests against enemy blogs, etc. You ain't seen nothing yet.

I have to wonder if Google is Charging for these?

The day it becomes 1337% is the day we kiss 4chan goodbye,

And I wonder what percentage of takedown requests are false? I mean, you have copyright trolls as much as patent trolls. And their stupid auto-takedown algorythm for Youtube is completely broken, as was proven by multiple takedowns against NASA.

I wonder if they can request takedowns for other businesses, it's fraudalent, but I'm sure some people out there are trying to do that to their competition . . . and boost their standings in the search rankings by doing so.

Just assign one guy to it. Who is 92 and opens them in order. If they send a mllion requests, it's just going to slow down the process.

Eventually if googles search engine has less good results than other engines then people will move elsewhere. They are going to shoot themselves in the foot.

And, Google will not do that.

Most searches on the internet right now are for piracy, porn, and cats anyway. Who does legitimate searches nowadays? :p
