An App that has been in development for four years at the University of North Carolina Charlotte to locate and guide emergency personnel was successfully tested by a SWAT team in a training exercise on Friday. The App tracks officers in buildings in three dimensions and sends data by Wi-Fi to tracking computers on campus.

Ribarsky said the one-of-a-kind technology will assist law enforcement during emergencies. “We are definitely breaking ground,” he said. “The app is unique and a leader in developing 3-D models.”

They've had this tech for years in the movies :)
Cool to see it actually become real.

similar to what the army has been doing for years, now just 3D

Like on-board dash cams, you will find that the equipment was malfunctioning during the most critical moments and no data can be produced for investigation.

Next up: criminal scums develop software to detect where every SWAT member is based on wifi pings + GPS. SWAT fails again.

Next bridge in video cameras mounted in headgear along with heart and other critical monitors like chest and head based impact sensors and you can monitor the condition of your troops in the building. Unit commanders can tag with wifi sticky rounds perps and coordinate action.

Now all guns will include a wifi chip that on activation will report owner and location based on wifi signal return from the troopers in building placed sensors.

good times.

And really that technology shouldn't be far off at all.

just have to take the GM Wi-Fi detector off my new car and then I can find all the nearby SWAT officers...
