Instead of having a bunch of threads going for these displays I figured we could have one thread to rule them all with all of the important information in the first post.

Why are the Samsung S2xA850x Displays Important?

They use PLS panels from Samsung=Samsung's version of IPS=No gamma shift & wide viewing angles.

The Samsung 8 series is important because the S2xA850x are the ONLY non TN & VA matte 1920x1200 & 2560x1440 resolution panels that do not use an extremely grainy matte coating, unlike the matte IPS panels from LG. Instead the use a semi-glossy coating which is the lightest of all matte coatings.

What are the differences between the D & T?

As far as I know the main difference is that the S27A850T version forgoes having 2x Dual-Link DVI inputs and replaces one with an HDMI input.

The Samsung S27A850T Cnet Australia reviewed had an average gamma of 2.19 out of the box while the S27A850D's seem to consistently have a higher average gamma of 2.40=slight over saturation and minor black crush.

Most of the Samsung S27A850D's reviewed have a contrast of around 800:1 while Cnet Australias 850T had a contrast of 886:1 out of the box. My Samsung S27A850D's contrast is was around 850-8750:1 out of the box, and 850:1 after calibration. Most of the S27A850D's reviewed have had back-light bleeding while Cnet Australia's 850T did not have any.

It should be noted that Cnet Australia used an i1 display 2 colorimeter which is not that accurate with LED back-lit displays.

Another difference between the D and T versions of the 27" panel is that the D version has a USB 3.0 hub whereas the T model as a USB 2.0 hub, contrary to what Samsung's UK site says.

Drivers and manuals for the S27A850T can be downloaded from Samsung Australia (forget Samgung Global, Samsung UK, etc. They have nothing),

I don't count reviews from sites that do not use accurate colorimeters or provide any "performance pictures," (pictures of the display turned off don't count) as reviews :)

Another Samsung S24A850DW review has turned up, it is in Russian. The reviewer, =DEAD=, measured the input lag with the SMT Tool 2.0 to be 3.4ms, his measurement is currently the only accurate one. The unit he tested had the same back-light bleeding as Albovin's, but it had higher contrast.

=Dead='s review also features an anti-glare coating picture comparison:

I just got the S27A850T to replace my otherwise very good HP 2475w. I was all set on a Dell 2711 when I checked this forum and decided to think twice on the AG coating etc.

Anyway, it is a great monitor. At first colors seems a bit subdued compared to the HP 2475w but that has a wider gamut which can lead to saturated colors. I got it calibrated with my SpyderPro3 Elite which corrected the colors but obviously didn't give them more vibrancy. Allrighty then.

So just for fun I tried the Samsung Magic Colors, which gives the colors a nice kick without over-saturating them. Surprising good for enjoying your photos etc. Then I tried the Dynamic Contrast. Very interesting to say the least! Photos really comes alive with a lot of contrast and nicely saturated colors. There is still good shadow detail - better than my 2475W - but the highlights will, however, get blown. Over all it still looks fantastic with the Dynamic Contrast engaged and I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I'm going to use that a lot. :D

Detail in photos is also better presented on the S27A850T than on my 2475W when zoomed in to 100 % pixel. Things are just more sharp and less fuzzy. This was a surprise to me, but a welcome one.

Oh, and you want to hear about BLB? There is a bit on the top and bottom on the right side, but is seems to shift somewhat when I change position with my head. Anyway, it is not an issue to me at all.

Where did you buy it at, and what country are you from?

As for the BLB, are you sure that's not just the white glow that affects PLS & IPS when viewing dark backgrounds? BLB should remain in the same position, regardless of head position.

I have a s24a850 dw but I am struggling with it's brightness, I cannot get it to be dim enough. I have it at zero brightness, and I am running f.lux at it's most aggressive setting, but I still find it too bright for nighttime use. Any ideas? Also, the ECO sensor doesn't work at all

wheres the cheapest place to buy one of these babies in the US?

They are easy to get here in Denmark - both the D & T versions.

Regarding BLB, it could be white glow, I can't really make up my mind. But it is mainly on the right side. Key thing is that isn't very pronounced so it doesn't bother me at all.

For people looking into this monitor, I'm not convinced that BLB will be such a big issue. You gotta try it, I guess.

I got a 850T a couple of days ago and i can not see any significant BLB on my panel. There is the IPS(PLS) glow that shifts when you move your head around, but this is less then on the two other IPS screens i have to compare against. This monitor is really fantastic. The details and colors are truly beautiful. Though the screen will need to be calibrated, as it's got a redish tint to it.

I have a Dell U2711 to compare it to, and the Samsung matches it on colors and detail, but completely blows it out of the water when looking at the Dells AG coating, which is a non issue on the 850T.

I was planning on buying the Samsung S27B970, but its not expected here until closer to october. So even though i was really unsure about the 850T with regards to the issues i've read about, my patience got the better of me and i took a shot. And im really glad that i did, cause this monitor is blowing me away right now.

They are still 60Hz? Wonder when we will get IPS/PLS in 120Hz fashion. And the other thing that stops me from getting the S24a850 is its 16:10 factor... I'm hoping I'll see the 16:9 PLS 23"

16:10 shouldn't be a problem unless you really hate black bars. It should have 1:1 pixel mapping.

There is a 16:9 23" PLS monitor. Its the Eizo Foris FS2332.

I've been calibrating and using this monitor all day and it's just amazing. I have to say that this is the best money i've spent on my PC since i went from HDD to SSD. Also been playing alot of BF3 and DayZ and there is no ghosting or input lag problems that i can see. Love it! :D

Anyone tried to get 2560x1440 over hdmi on this monitor? (S27A850T)
The Dell 27" seems to be limited on the hdmi port, so just wondering if this one works or not.

Just bout a S24A850DW and I gotta say its awful, the contrast ratio is terrible (118:1), the light bleed is really bad, darks dont look dar they just look washed out like you're just starting at the backlit screen, blacks arent black they're grey.

Does anyone know what the letters after the model indicate? are thoes a production run or a factory code? The one from NCX's post has CI after the model, mine has ZA, just wondering what this signifies.

Also
Here are a couple pics I took of it with a blank screen with a couple different exposure settings.

Does anyone happen to have a calibrated color profile for the monitor I could try?

My S27A850D started to drops frames so I had to send it in to Samsung. They said they tried other 850D's (I doubt they did) at their repair facility and they did the same thing so they concluded that the monitor was working properly. When I called to send it in I told the rep that the display dropped frames. When I sent it in the first time a repair facility employee called me and asked what was wrong so I told him the issue as well as to download PixPerAn which shows a race car driving across the screen to see the display dropping frames. They didn't call me back, the display just showed up a few days later.

I've sent it in again, this time I am hoping for a replacement since I provided typed instructions to download PixPerAn so they can see that the display is dropping frames.

I figured I'd post this so people could be warned, keep in mind that this does not mean all S27A850D's drop frames.

NCX, could you tell me if this issue was ever resolved with your Samsung monitor? I'm likely to pick the BL2710PT over this monitor, but I was curious how this issue was resolved (or if it was ever resolved)?
