Since tomorrow is the 4th of July, I thought I'd share this handy map that shows you which states allow fireworks and which ones don't. Want to know what the fireworks laws are in each specific state? Hit the link.

Rules of fireworks: The people that are of 18 years and older that are still entertained by fireworks are often the last people that should be allowed to purchase them.

Fireworks > Guns

Sorry I prefer to entertain myself with non-violent explosions and pretty effects.

Didn't go all out for 4th July but saving the big bucks for new years.

Haha my whole group of friends (all over 18) all love fireworks and we make trips to indian reservations to get the good stuff every year :p guess they shouldn't of sold them to me since I'm over 18 and know how to handle them properly.

So what is this 4th of July thing you guys celebrate?

:D

Eh, state law doesn't really help you that much, because it's very city/county dependent.

This is true, there are a bunch of counties in my state that don't allow aerials. Only one that I know of does. But there are a bunch of indian reservations that can sell what ever they want and the town I am in they tend not to care so much about aerials even though they are illegal. They will just tell you they are illegal and you shouldn't be setting them off.

Yes, this is true. Especially people like me. :D

WTF?

Fireworks are better than guns, but only if you have shitty guns. :) And no "surplus propane cylinders". Or Tannerite.

We'll be doing centerfire drill 'till near dark, then start in with the 2" mortars, lol.

I hear Ma Deuce is coming by this year to party; should be interesting. :) (My state allows full auto weapons)

I'm not really sure what a "non-violent explosion" is, but unless you're talking about properly dressing a pornstar's face, I think it would suck.

Guess that's just me...

Happy Fourth!

I'll be hiding inside with lots of buckets of water this year. Drunk people with stuff that's on fire are kinda scary.

It's been going over 100 daily for well over a week, and hasn't rained in....I can't remember. The grass everywhere is dead (if you don't water it, but then there are water restrictions that say you aren't suppose to because water levels are getting low).

If in all that you still think it's a good idea to go outside and light things on fire to have them go flying into the sky and land who knows where in a crowded suburban neighborhood........then you're probably one of my neighbors.

Yeah, I live right near one of those reservations. Gonna stop by today or tomorrow and get some, even though technically it's illegal to set 'em off inside city limits.

Last year the cops were patrolling around, and they saw us setting off some. Just said "I see it again and it's a $500 fine" and drove off. At least they are somewhat cool about it. :p

Threads like this always bring out the morally superior "guns and explosives are bad and only for the gubmint, you'll shoot your eye out" types.

Fireworks in the night
Gun in the day

Sounds like a good day.

Anyone who gets hurt beyond minor burns with fireworks is a word that is negative.

Sounds good to me. Gonna go run a few mags through my new Kimber then take a traffic free bike ride, then do nothing with family.

Actually they tend to bring out the nutty overzealous "yeehaw guns and explosives are awesome and if not for the gubmint you'd be free to shoot someones eye out" types.

Uh oh...gun laws and Second Amendment debate! This should cause some forum fireworks.

Until I saw that chart I thought FW were illegal in most states....nope, just mine :)

Turn in your man card.

The only thing that should change as you mature is the SIZE of your fireworks, not your appreciation for fire and explosions.

Where i live they don't care if you shoot them off, but you're not allowed to buy them here. We have to go to the next parish (live in Louisiana) to get fireworks.

There's some municipal laws that might still apply. Where I live the city says, posession of any fireworks (even sparklers and stuff) is a $250 dollar fine. Use of them is a $500 dollar fine and they do run around enforcing it too. It's still scary around here because people try to avoid the law and that means they're doing it in secret at places that aren't really safe for it which starts fires.

Honestly, fireworks are fairly boring. How many times do you need to see the exact same kind of firework go off before you know what it looks like? Explosions can be exciting when you're seeing something new blow up.

Fireworks definitely shouldn't be illegal statewide, but I do agree that there need to be designated spots to light fireworks and bans on fireworks implemented when weather demands it.

If there is any risk of forest fire during a drought for example, they should definitely treat it as a serious criminal offense if people still light up.

Outside of that though, practiced safely its not only tradition but an absolute blast, especially if you combine it with a nice health BIG bonfire. With regard to alcohol, we always have our designated fire/fireworks guy sober (no more than a beer before hand), and everyone else can get plastered. :)

When I lived in Ohio you could buy just about any firework you wanted locally but had to fill out a paper saying you were not going to ignite them in the state.

Who the hell could celebrate the fourth with just sparklers?

I just skip fw all together. It's a waste of money IMHO. Would rather spend $100 or more on something like a CPU upgrade or gas to go riding on my bike.

That's kinda smart though, having the sober person doing it and going somewhere that random explosions won't set stuff on fire. Personally, I don't mind that at all and I might even go along for something like that. :)

But, I live around scary people that don't really think right when they aren't drunk and most certainly won't tomorrow night. The cat and I are hiding!

No. Hamish Campbell is many things but he's definitely not one of the overzealous 2nd Amendment supporters.

I'm a responsible gun owner, and I support the second amendment as much as I support the other constitutional amendments. Which is to say it's not an issue worth getting worked up over or investing any time protecting from imaginary threats. Redneck yokels shooting rounds into the air on the 4th give all of us a bad name. It's stupid, dangerous, and obnoxious.

Fireworks are like women, they come in all shapes and sizes, and if banging em is boring you, you're either "different" or you need to upgrade to something better. ;)

Under a burn ban because we got fuck all for precipitation in the past couple of months, so no fireworks for me.

At least IL, VT, IA, OH get to play with poppers and sparklers.

In VA we get "fireworks." By that I mean all you can buy are sparklers and fountains that cannot go higher than 3-4 feet.
