Ringbow Kickstarter

I was thinking something like this would be cool for mobile device games, but the question then becomes, how would you hold the device and still use this thing?

The idea is interesting but so far I'm not seeing a ton of use for it beyond what we already have available.

idea is kind of interesting but i dont see it being that cool.

i still think the novent falcon is a better idea however that gaming accessory failed too.

...i guess... if you have a thing for very large foreheads. lol

OK I actually didnt watch the video on the kickstarter site. I had watched a different one. She looks noticeably less hot in the kickstarter vid. Thank you OniFactor for keeping my standards up!

What's with that guy staring off camera?

Look at me when you talk to me, fool.

I agree with the simple question.....how do you use the ring and hold your device?
The control wheel/D-Pad also looks infinately small.

No thanks.:D

Not impressed. Looks like they struggle switching between touching the device and using the ring.

Sounds like a cool idea, except for the fact that they both sound like their noses are plugged...

I'm not really sure I see a point. Touching the screen and using tilt looks like it'd give someone a much finer degree of control over a game.

I see this product trying to find a space in a very competitive market. As soon as touchscreens with that dynamic raised surface are out on the market there is no need for this. Come to think of it, I don't see a need in the first place for this...hence the Kickstarter.

Not only that but aren't devices starting to more and more use game controllers?

Plus, as its already been stated, how exactly is one supposed to hold their device with one hand and use the screen while you use the Ringbow?

I don't know, cool concept and all, just don't see the real practical use of the device...

This is so crap looking I feel sorry for them. :(

Looks like a toy from the 80s... Also annoying to use.

before I realized they went on your fingers, they reminded me of something this guy would wear around his wrists :p

I probably shouldn't say this, but the very first thing that popped into my head when I saw the pics was, "What is that? It looks like something a guy puts on his junk to vibrate it or something." Then, I figured out it was finger sized. Then, I thought about the two for a second. Then, I inexplicably giggled myself out of my office.

I could see this working to make FPS's on phones better. You hold the phone in your left hand, landscape between your index finger and pinky, resting on your palm/other fingers. Then you can use your left thumb for WSAD and your Ringbow and index finger on your right hand for "mouse look" and fire. I didn't see if there was any kind of click on the ringobw, by pressing down in the center that could emulate a right click for instance. It's a specialized piece of hardware though, not sure it would work well with tablets because of the issue of how you would hold it etc. (Probably between your left index, middle and ring fingers and the base of your thumb/palm. It would be fatigueing unless you were reclined and supporting the weight with your leg or had a really light tablet.)

Lol... what's with these horrible presentations lately? I think they need to join Ballmer in a toast-maters training course.

I hate all kickstarter presentations. The people in them are so annoying (usually when they try to be "funny") or creepy or just seem really untrustworthy it makes me not want to back whatever it is and puts me off. All the projects i've ended up backing i've decided from the start not to watch any videos. :D

Lol.

Maybe Pricasso can use one to make tablet art :p

The engadget video shows some ideas of how it could be used. I think it's going to take many many versions of products like this to come to market before there is a standard of functionality of some sort that is as ubiquitous as the keyboard and mouse.

To all the people commenting that the CEO is ugly, I'd like to see some pictures of your girlfriends or of yourselves. Everyone here is a supermodel huh? She looks perfectly normal to me. From some of the people posting comments you'd think the CEO was Tubgirl or something.

No, she is not.
Too bad you didn't bother to read my other comment I posted after this. But don't mind me you have a supermodel girlfriend to pay attention to.

All I saw were boobs and a guy not talking at the camera.
Haha, It took me a while to not do the same thing and look at the device.

Exactly. I would love to see them(or lack of) as well. But to your previous point, I share the same sentiments.

The device or the CEO lady?
Haha, I smiled when I read that. I was close to chuckling but thank you for that smile.

his eye movement indicates he was reading a script.

They need to add force feedback because of this:

hmm I think I'd have to put that on my penis

i simply said not hot. average, for sure. i like to think my wife's hotter (redhead).

but i digress.. personally, i think that as opposed to manual controllers like this, eye recognition, and similar tracking technologies are more the way things need to go for this stuff..

This, with force feedback and 3d porn would decimate the Basement Geek herd. :)

Although, rigging it to give, (ahem) 'positive feedback' when ever you made an awesome frag or even a support move would probably turn someone into a Fragging God over time.

You know your posters have ADHD/ADD when the only comment they can make is how the presenter looks. Lets see our resident Hulk Hogan geeksters in the flesh I say for comparison sakes.

As for the device, looks pretty nifty and hopefully it's as functional realistically, as cool as it looks as an innovative product.

how many kids with ADHD does it take to aggregate newsfeeds? i dunno, wanna go ride bikes?[/joke]

I have yet to find an accessory item for a mobile device that I'd actually use all the time other than stereo bluetooth headsets (like the LG-HBS-700). Mobile devices are just that--mobile (and usually very hand-held). Adding another thing you have to carry around with you--even something as seemingly non-cumbersome as a large ring--just detracts from its mobility (and your ability to hold your device). That's why you don't generally see people walking around using syluses with their devices. IMHO that is.

Plus, for what it is (a wireless d-pad basically) it seems overpriced at $45 for the Kickstarter price (which generally means they will retail for 25%+ more).
