This is one fad that could actually pay off eventually or if not, end up as just a reminder of better times somewhere down the road. Social group members on the Internet are planning on purchasing one or two shares of Facebook each when it IPO’s in the 18th merely for the souvenir value of the stock certificate. Put enough of these souvenir hunters together and it adds up to big blocks of stock and more money in the pockets of the present stock holders.

Whether or not Facebook stock retains its value into the future — heck, whether or not Facebook itself still exists in the future — isn’t of too much concern to these buyers.

Do you even get a stock certificate if you buy a share on etrade?

Disney stock .. yeah I can see you get a Disney special thing to frame, but Facebook? Shit do they even have certificates anymore or is it all digital?

Buddy's dad still has his 3dfx stock, which is nostalgic. So this kinda makes sense fore Facebook people.

No. Stock certificates really don't exist anymore. The SEC is actively trying to get rid of them, since they can be traded under the table (among other issues (like theft, forgery) that come with any physical deed of ownership) which opens the door to any number of illegal activities. Even if you bought a share of a company that still uses certificates, if you buy through an online broker, like e*trade, they hold the certificates on your behalf. It would be an enormous pain in the ass to get them out as physical pieces of paper.

Who cares the value of stock is crazy high before it's even public of course it'll go up
