Wouldn't it just be easier to hold off on publishing this list until these two countries aren't in the top two spots? Seriously, why even publish this list when it is the same two countries year after year?

The United States on Monday again put Russia and China on its annual list of countries with the worst records of preventing the theft of copyrighted and other intellectual property (IP), the U.S. Trade Representative's office said. Argentina, Canada and India were also put on the "priority watch list," along with Algeria, Chile, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan, Thailand, Ukraine and Venezuela.

Does anyone see the Russians or China arresting their citizens, hitting them with huge fines and threatening them with jail for piracy? Absolutely not. It's an interesting comparison to how much power corporations have in the United States vs. the rest of the world.

They're more than welcome to infringe on anyone else's intellectual properties, but don't join WTO and then bitch that the world is telling them what to do. You join a club and you follow the rules of the club. If you can't handle it, there's the door.

The US uses this list to try to strong arm countries into implementing its foreign policies, always beneficial to Americans, and not always related to piracy. They put Canada on the list for years, and asked for concessions in unrelated matters, and in return would take them off the list.

It's heavy handed American bullshit at its finest.

It's an interesting comparison on how much other countries that sending courts after random (and probably innocent) citizens is a waste of time and money

Oh wait, where is our position to China? We're the hand holding and stroking China's shaft? Oh....

How can we accuse China of piracy? We give them the designs and manufacturing specs. Is anyone surprised that they use this info to also create knock-offs for sale within their country?

ill agree with the comments about trying to strong arm others, not being related to piracy and using it to ask for concessions from other countries....

... but being of benifit to actual americans? not just no, but hell freakin no.
benificial to american corporations sure, but actual americans? *BZZZT* wrong answer there bob....

Russia and China both jail citizens for protesting government. Though, I'm sure those countries are better than the US, right?

People have been detained/arrested at US airports for posting stuff on twitter/facebook/blogs that the US government does not like. The US is pretty much at that point too.

Now they want to snoop even more on what people do and are even building entire data centers to store this info. It's going to get ugly fast.

Just get the RIAA to find an album hosted on a Chinese server. Then we can declare the $1,000,000,000,000 in bonds China has bought from us are paid in full!

I'm not saying it's all roses and sunbeams, just that a little perspective would be nice. Being detained is a bit different than getting a 7 year sentence for asking God to save Russia from Putin.

Whether Mr Putin gives a damn about what you think of him.... ZERO

Common sense, we will have none of that here!

I remember when a client I worked for elected NOT to manufacture certain components in China. They didn't want to risk the IP being stolen and then used to build black boxes that could hack into certain Satellite TV infrastructures. No surprise here, move on.

China isn't going to stop this -- to them the more they hurt the US economically the better.

Indefinite detention is different... it's sometimes worst. Maybe not in as harsh environment, I don't know since I've never been in either, but I don't really see it as good in either case.

As much as America might want to view cops as Saviors in shining armor, there are precious few that don't abuse their power or do things heavy-handedly thinking it's their professional right from God or whatever else people believe in to do so.

lol at Canada...guess thats were Americans go for their warez these days given their backwards laws

Is this why everytime i download a movie off filestube it has Russian dub on top of it. Audio channel enabled by default.

They actually take the time to translate porn into Russian? Weird. I guess they find our porno plots fascinating and can't watch it without understanding the motive behind the characters.
