I know, I know, companies say "do no evil" so often that it doesn't mean jack squat anymore but I do like the idea of not using patents to block innovation.

The pledge, which could become a kind of Hippocratic Oath for tech companies with patents, gives Twitter employees more control over their inventions -- and, most importantly, promises that the patents will only be used for defensive purposes, not to block other companies from innovating.

Just like Google, this is admirable and I'll even believe it...until they choose to go public. That is the root of my opinion on Google. I'll even buy it if they didn't bound it under the "patent" context. Again, only until they go public.

Sorry but Twitter and do no evil is not even remotely believable.

For Google, even if it is highly debatable, it is at least believable.

Which companies are saying "do no evil"? I'm aware of google, and now twitter - so that was one up until this pledge.

Any entity/company/organization/etc data mining the people has already done the most evil possible.
I don't care what anyone says, data mining is up there with the worst of the worst tactics possible
these days...
