I had to RMA a WD20EADS that dropped out of my RAID5. Its manufacture date was Aug 2010.

Just got word my replacement is a WD25EZRX

I know I cant use it in my raid array and my cold spare is already in there so I dont have another backup spare.

What are your opinions on this drive? How is its reputation? Thoughts? Advice?

thanks [H]ardForum!

Why is the replacement not usable? If it's not a good enough equivalent, you shouldn't have to accept it as a replacement, no?

It's not usable in the same method that I was using the WD20EADS.

These drives arent made anymore, they allowed you to turn on TLER and to disable the WDIDLE feature for use in a RAID setup. To get these features today you have to spend the extra dough for the raid edition drives. They also have 32 cache and are not advanced format.

I wasnt aware that I had a choice of what to receive from Western Digital?
