I completely forgot that I signed up for this. It looks like they made quite a bit of improvement since I joined. Gonna have to get this fired up and test these ultra settings.

Edit: Holy crap this looks fantastic. Alt+tab is pretty much instant too. Hope it stays that way.

Holy Shitsnacks! That looks crazy realistic. How is the actual game play I wonder?

Looking pretty good. I didn't hear great things about the physics when it was first opened up, have they improved them now?

The physics and FFB have improved a lot since the first builds. The input lag and floatyness of the cars has been eliminated and the FFB is starting to feel really good. You can actually drive in a straight line and make saves without getting into tankslappers. It's definitely a sim and no where near the old Shift games as this point. I really think it has the potential to be something special and I havn't been able to stop playing the latest builds. Here's a trailer I made for it recently. It's my first attempt so it's nothing fancy.

Here's a few recent screens as well with the new weather transitions:

Nice video Darkdeus. I'm downloading build 174 right now, looking forward to seeing the weather stuff.

At first I was like.. eh why is someone posting a picture of a F1 car then I realized.. oh @#$ its computer generated  Very nice! I can't wait!

The video's on YouTube look awesome. Some clips have close ups showing moving drive train components. Also brake rotors and such spinning from the front views. Tons of details

My main point of pessimism is that I don't like road racing cars, I prefer stock cars. I still think this is really neat though.

I want to play, but I don't want to pay $15 for something that I'm going to play once

Anyone else having their game randomly start to crawl fps wise? I'll be playing fine, change tracks or cars or something, start a new race and then my fps will top out in the 30's or 40's. I can quit the race, and play with settings (turning down graphic settings helps ever so slightly), but I won't get my fps back until I restart the game, then everything is back to being well over 60 until it randomly does it again.

Is this for real. The screenshots are definitely the best gaming graphics iv ever seen

Does this game require any sort of client to run or is it just download, install and play ?

Yeah, the game is absolutely beautiful. Even running the DX9 version, the game still shines better than most AAA titles. And nope, no client or anything, just download, install, login (since it's only open to members right now), and play. They may change that later on obviously considering how far this game still has to go, but I don't recall hearing about anything like that.

How demanding is it? SLI 680s only? Looks really good. I do not play racing games every but just to see this might be worth $15.

Those screenshots are literally jaw dropping. And that last video. Oh man, I need to scrounge up $15 to play this. I generally don't get into racing sims (I lack a wheel, my last one broke and never bothered to buy another one), but I will like to screw around with this.

same here :)
looks great, if there is drift mode, I'll go buy a G27 now.

Here's another amazing looking trailer by PLM5: http://vimeo.com/41210575
The game looks so good it's ridiculous. It actually runs well for having such good graphics too. I get 30-60 fps on ultra details with 4X AA with a gtx470 and e8400.

How are you going to do the TV? I am trying to find a nice way to mount an LCD in front of the playseat so it is a stand alone system in my office.

The game has potential.

Handling: Good on some cars way off on others. Also kinda hard to get used to.
AI: Love to ram you off the track.
Graphics: The cars are very nice but the track surrounding are crap.
How it runs: No problem maxed out on the GTX680.
G25: too sensitive but options are there to change the settings to something you want.

Thats all I got so far. didn't play long. worth $61 usd (45 euros) no not so far. 15 euros maybe.

TLDR: Game play does not equal screen shots.

I have same problem. This game is just another super/track car racing game and there is plenty of those for PC and I dont like them, they do nothing for the car enthusiast inside me. Why in the name of all that is holy there is no car porn game like Forza or GT serie on PC?

That said, OMG this game looks amazing. Just for the graphics alone I want to give it a try.

I'm bored so I decided to get in on this, signed up as a member. It's downloading so slooooow, at this rate it'll be ready to play some time in the next few days :p

Keep us updated Tudz, I've been interested as well. But I don't like to check it too often as it makes me remember that it's not 100% complete yet. So I check periodically! But let me know if the alpha is worth playing.

Wow, the graphics are pretty awesome for a racing sim. I will start off by qualifying my impression by the fact I'm racing with a 360 controller as I lent my G25 to a friend, but I'm mighty impressed so far.

It looks great and even with a bunch of cars on track in a night race it maintains 30-60fps on my GTX460/i5 750 and with just hotlapping 60fps easily, though I don't have things maxed (turned off motion blur before I even started a race as I hate that sort of stuff).

Some areas on the tracks need some graphical work to bring them up to the standard of the rest of the game. Being mostly an Aussie bogan the first thing I did was hit Bathurst and I was pretty impressed, but there were a few areas of the track that looked ripped from N64 graphics and the trees looked a bit bland (similar to the trees in GTR2).

The cars look incredible though.

But the night racing, WOW, the lighting engine is amazing. I'm a fan of night racing and it's been something that has pissed me off in racing sims for years, they have terrible lighting engines (Race 07 was a huge step backward in lighting compared to GTR2) but the lighting here is incredible and I feel like I want to race lap after lap through the darkness.

The cockpit flickers with light as street lights are filtered through trees. The headlights illuminate the road and create shadows like you'd expect instead of just creating an unrealistic light blob in front of the car. When you're being followed by another car, their lights will illuminate your cockpit, and also your car will cast shadows on the track from their lights and if they're close enough to you, you'll actually see 2 distinct shadows, one from each headlight. Even if you didn't have rear vision mirrors you'd be able to tell how close and in what position opponents are just based off their headlights and the shadows they create on the track.

Needless to say I'm pretty impressed so far, I want to keep racing but I have work to do over the weekend so I'm gonna put it on the shelf for now and come back to it later.

As I said though, I'm playing with a 360 controller, so I'm not gonna make any real comments about the handling. It feels floaty to me, but I haven't raced sims without a wheel since 2005 with the original Forza so that's probably the problem. It's definitely a step up over NFS SHIFT, I can tell that even with a controller... but that's also not saying much as I thought SHIFT had absolute terrible handling.

The acid test will be how it goes with a wheel, might have to go over to my friend's place and give it a go. But not this week, I'm waaaaay too busy. I'll give it a go with the G25 when I can and post some updated comments later.

EDIT: I'll also say it's not easy to control with a 360 controller, I had to take the esses on Bathurst super slow to avoid spinning and as such I wasn't competitive with the AI cars except in sweepers.

EDIT2: I will also say that maybe I'm making the game sound awesome with my comments, but that's probably just because I'm a bit of a graphics whore and I've been really disappointed with the graphics in racing sims lately. I started playing racing sims when Live for Speed was new and GTR1 was around and back then racing sims looked as good as any other game, so by 2011 I was a bit disappointed when racing sims just felt really stagnant and dated and the community was a shadow of what it was back when I started.

So take my comments with a grain of salt :p Basically I think the game looks awesome, which to me goes a long way to creating an immersive driving experience in addition to how the cars handle (which I haven't really been able to test on a 360 controller). I know some people think graphics are irrelevant for a racing sim, I'm not one of those people :p I love racing through a country road with the sun flickering through the trees and off my dash and a great expansive world ahead of me... both in real life and in games. :)

Thanks for the update. You mentioned the steering being rather difficult with the controller. Which is understandable if this game is supposed to be sim-esque. What worries me though is that this game is made by the people who made Need for Speed Shift 1-2. For anyone who's played that game, you'll find that the cars are notorious for TERRIBLE under-steer. It didn't matter if you had a wheel or controller. It was never acknowledged or fixed. Some people suggested that you had to turn on every single driving aid possible to even have half of the control of the car accessible. I hope that the controller experience you issues is just from being in alpha and they fix that stuff long before release. It's what killed Shift for me.
