Okay, so I bought a Gigabyte 970A-UD3 with an FX-8120 and the board keeps reverting back to DDR3-1333 (trouble booting) when I set it to DDR3-1600 and set VDIMM to 1.60v (tried 1.50v with same result). What is the problem with it? Memory is Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 (2x4GB).

I set the memory to use "Profile1" and that seems to fix the problem. Weird...picking 1600 wouldn't work, but using the profile, which sets it to 1600, works.

The board is using latest beta F5 BIOS.

Thanks...

It could be that the profile is setting other things like CAS timings. If it defaults to CAS 8 or CAS 7 at 1333 mhz, and you only change the multiplier to make it run at 1600 mhz, it will try to run at CAS 8 or whatever timings it had set for 1333, which would cause your instabilities.

Did you try 10 10 10 27?....I had the same setup and same issues....so i decided to take it back and get the Asrock and so far no issues running 1600 with 9 9 9 24.

Can you try to set from bios: Bios setup\Advanced memory setting/ performance enhance from Turbo to Standard.

I got this motherboard 970A-UD3 and with Corsair Vengeance (Blue color) DDR3 1600 FSB 4 GB (x2) without any problem to set it as 1600 FSB.

My system configuration:
Motherboard : 970A-UD3
Bios version: F5c
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810
Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 (dual channel) attached on DIMM 1 and 2.
OS: Window 7 64 bits.

Bios setup: Set MIT/ DRAM E.O.C.P. set to profile 1.

Maybe you can write to Gigabyte Global service for bios F5c for this motherboard.

Additional information,
Since XMP of memory are for Intel motherboard, to used XMP on amd motherboard you may do set the DRAM E.O.C.P, to profile 1 but may may also have to add TRFC to 160 n/s to try if it work.
