RIM Is Waaay Out Of Touch

Pastel Power Rangers?!?!

Yeah this is anything BUT bold. Stupid, but not bold. Bold would be making software for your phones that doesn't require moving through 5+ screens just to set a ringtone.

You hate to watch a train wreck..

but sometimes you just can't look away.

Amazing how these people get paid thousands and millions of dollars who are so out of touch with their client-base/demographic to create stuff like this.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Im so sad to see RIM go.... but sometimes natural selection is needed.

Let see here.

White guy... check
Asian chick... check
black guy... check
Hispanic girl... check
Gender decided by half... check

Wait... where the crippled guy? How can they bring back Extreme Ghostbusters without the cripple? What, a cell phone? Crappy one too? What is this, Esurance for cell phones? They're clearly not anime based.

RIM was a company that was used for the "professional" for their corporate communications. What about that ad looks appealing to the mobile professional or corporate user? Notta. That ad just turns me off to RIM. Geesh, what a fall. This is something my 8 year old daughter would have catch her eye as she's walking down an aisle at the mall.

I loved my BB Curve for years even when my provider wanted me to upgrade after two years... twice. RIM is out of touch with the people who made them a once-great company and it's too bad they've slipped in making great products. Too bad. I wish RIM would get back in the mobile race and start developing innovative products again.

You mean up it's ass.

Oh why oh why did I buy a Blackberry... worst technological decision ever. :(

Why , because it does what you wanted it to at the time. Something I haven't heard here,eg: is that the big players could allow you to keep your phone and up grade the software, but Noooooo, they want you to buy a new phone or Tablet every time of an upgrade. Can you imagine what you would think if you had to do that with your computer or laptop. Even tho the prices of the phones are are the same as an entry level or better computer, people don't think twice. Rim at least promises to give you a free upgade on your playbook from ver.1 to 2. The others could do the same but Noooo, they want you to buy a new tablet.

Give Rim a chance, Apple just about folded untill Steve came back and took over the helm.

What I don't get is that they rehashed a commercial from 2010 featuring "Diplo" that was for the BlackBerry Torch...and are now using it to promote "the new BlackBerry Bold" this year.

When people start looking at your company like it's dead in the water, perhaps re-running your old ads isn't the best way to spark interest in your products (that all look fairly similar anyway).

So what's wrong with RIM trying to market Blackberries to other demographic than business customers? The new crop of their devices is pretty much in line with i devices and Android in terms of functionality. If this works and helps them sell more products then more power to them. As a main phone and email device, BB is still best IMHO.

I like the one response under GOGO GIRL:
"@Blackberry I will be bold by completing a 100-mile bike ride despite being missing some ribs from cancer surgery.#bebold @mmbeachbum"

Really? that's just wrong

So I should congratulate RIM for making QNX/Playbook OS v2.0 (they do like to play fast and loose with version numbering schemes) to the twelve people who bought playbooks? RIM has had its head up its arse for too many years and this is just another example. Look what happened to people who bought last years high end BBs -- no OS upgrade for you! Then they released a new set of flagship phones with a new version of the OS they called 7.0 when it was barely 6.1. They are testing 7.1 which will come to only the last round of flagship devices and then version 10 aka QNX aka Playbook OS for phones with a new set of devices and it won't trickle down to the 7.x or 6.x devices. So, no, I don't think I should congratulate them for offering what is basically ver 1.5 for free because they fail everywhere else in their lineup. RIM is down to 6% of new Smartphones purchased IIRC for last quarter where Android and iOS are like 40% each and there are damned good reasons -- though a lot of Android MFGs need to get their shit together WRT to OS upgrades.

I understand they want to market to a younger, juvenile type of person, but look at it like this: when Ford owned Land Rover, Ford didn't change Land Rover's commercials to include Ford branding. They knew that the people who where buying Land Rovers are usually different then those buying Ford F150s or a Taurus. Same thing when they owned Jaguar. If I want to buy a Jaguar, I don't want to see material or branding that is also on Ford Escort ads. Keep them separate.

Blackberry needs to get their act together last year. Or the year before. :(

I find all the BB bashing funny. I still use a Blackberry 8900 (3-4 day battery life, even after 2.5 years.)
It has Google mail, Google maps, and is connected to exchange through my BB enterprise server. Does pretty much everything I need, except for the slow web browser, and I have a computer for that.

Recently one the the managers at the office switch back to thier BB (after having an android phone for a few months). They mainly do email and messaging, and decided the BB was faster and easier to use (and better battery life).

Its not funny; it just reflects the fact that, much like RIM, some users live in the past ;)

You sir........are correct.

Steve Jobs was the best thing to ever happen to Apple and, like him or hate him, he understood his target demographic and brought that company back from the brink of hell.

Hopefully RIM can find someone to do the same...if not...more cartoons. :(

Ive been dealing with Blackberries for some time in my day job. And frankly I think they are way behind in functionality compared to Google, Apple and MS. They may have better management for the business user, but I suspect that is going to change. RIM are going and going fast. Whatever this campaign is it looks like its been put together by a bunch of retards since the main benefits that BBs have are soley geared to the business world. And anyway its really patronising to kids, Im sure this will turn anyone off a BB unless its thier 6th birthday.

Because they have to recognize their limitations and place in the market. What's wrong with IBM trying to sell consulting services to teenagers? I bet if they used a bunch of pink unicorn mascots, they would do great!

RIM is not about Easter colored cartoons...slowly turns and walks away then slams door on way out.

I don't understandy why anyone, business or not would want to use any Blackberry device.

They are painful to use.

The only reason Blackberry has any marketshare at all is because IT guys like them from a manageability standpoint. if they users had a choice, Blackberry would be dead years ago.

Clearly they're trying to appeal to the ever-elusive "tween girl" demographic.

Agreed. I've used all other devices and when it comes to communication, BB is still the best. I have an adroid tablet for the fun stuff.

BB is bested by both iOS and Android even in phone/email/messaging if you ask me.

Gogo Girl
Max Stone
Justin Steele
Trudy Foreal (pronounced fo-real)

Is it just me, or are those porn names?

So they're marketing to 12 year olds now.

Last year I met a senior executive from RIM at a local bar in Los Gatos. Everything he said came out as denial so absurd that it would give the staunchest religious zealot a run for his money. "People need our security... the iPhone is a fad..." and on and on. His dutiful wife just sat there and agreed with everything he said. I couldn't convince him of anything... it was like talking to a brick wall.

It's this culture of denial that has killed them, more so than anything else.

iOS and Android don't even come close when it comes to security.
That's why there are still companies (that have very secure environments) that only allow Blackberries.

There's also the bandwidth issues. Email on an iPhone or Android can easly use 10x as much bandwidth as a Blackberry. My old BB 8900 with a slow CPU and a slow "edge" connection, can usually open an attached TIF or PDF from our exchange server faster than a current generation iphone or Android.

For people who don't understand how that's possible, it's due to the Blackberry Enterprise server. With an iPhone or Android phone, you have to download the full attachment, and then open it locally on your phone (assuming your phone can even open the attachment). With a Blackberry connected to a BB Enterprise server (free for small businesses by the way), the attachment is opened on the server, and just a scaled version of the attachment is sent to the phone.
