AMD has just released new Catalyst 12.1 drivers for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux platforms. In addition, there is a new Catalyst 12.2 preview driver for those of you interested. Grab them if you need them, try them (the preview drivers are here) if you haven't.

Please note that AMD Radeon HD 7900 users should keep using the 8.921.2 RC11 driver found here as the 12.2 preview driver does not supported the AMD Radeon HD 7900 series.

So with all the various drivers floating around, which one is the newest/best in compatibility with 7970s?

Thanks Brent, just got a second Sapphire 7970, looks like the RC w/ Cap 3 is the way to go.

Can anyone give any feed back how any of these perform with Skyrim/BF3 Crossfire 69xx series ?

So the AMD driver team actually put up the correct set of drivers this time? What a shocker.

Wtf is going on with the documentations on these 12.2 previews

We rather have bad docs than bad drivers, right ?

Seems like 12.1 is the same as 12.1 Preview.

That's usually the case with ATI drivers, their preview drivers are basically non-MSFT qualified drivers. Most of the time, they turn out to be the same as the released ones.

Hmm, I'm kind of disappointed that the latest release still does not support the 7970.

What a frickin mess. Things like this will drive me back to nVidia.

no the way it works.. typically the preview drivers are the drivers they sent into microsoft to be certified which are then released publicly as preview drivers/beta drivers.. when you see for example the day one hotfix drivers they are using the WHQL + all the hot fixes added between the preview driver release and when the WHQL drivers came out. its annoying and a pain in the ass, but when you are stuck relying on microsoft's slow asses its really the only way to do it while still getting driver fixes out there. Nvidia has to deal with the same crap, they just go a different route by released the WHQL submitted drivers as beta drivers and only really release another beta driver if its urgent or a new game comes out between driver cycles. personally even as much of a hassle as AMD's driver releases are, i kind of prefer that over Nvidia's.

i installed the 12.2 preview note if you install the 12.2 preview after it installs keep an eye on your task manager since currently i have the amd external events client module (atieclxx.exe) is running and it is eating up memory and cpu cycles 900mb and peggged the cpu at 92% before i killed it
