SilverStone Nightjar ST50NF Power Supply Review - SilverStone is back on our test bench today with a fully silent and fanless 500 watt computer power supply that is making some very impressive "Silver" efficiency claims. Beyond that, terms like "noiseless," "dusty environments," and "mission-critical" are thrown around. Now to figure out what a "Nightjar" is.

Oh man, I still vividly remember when they came out with an earlier version of this PSU back in 2008, with the same model name.

Am I the only one who recognizes "nightjar" as a synonym for "chamberpot". Or am I dating myself here :(.

A nightjar is a twilight bird with a very silent flight, like an owl's, so it's a quite appropriate name for a fanless PSU.

Not such a good name when you take into account the other name often used for such bird which is "goatsucker"

Nope, was about to post the same thing

I would be much more impressed with the Kingwin Stryker 500W if the links throughout this article were to point to an actual review.
They do not.
There's no listing in the power supply reviews for the Stryker.
The second non-ad result of a site search for Stryker 500W points to a review that looks to have been unfinished:
http://hardocp.com/article/2011/10/02/kingwin_stryker_500w_power_supply_reviewdone
There are no pictures in the review, and the index contains duplicate listings for all of the pages in the review.
I'm not clear if the last line of the review is meant for publication.

Perhaps this is due to having linked to a PC Perspective review for the Stryker on September 2.

The link to NewEgg works.

There is something wrong with the database. The Srtyker review was published sometime ago: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1644610&highlight=Stryker We have no relation to PcPer.

We are working to get this fixed, sorry.

Silverstone's stuff is always overpriced and undersupported, and I'll honestly never see the appeal of fanless PSU designs anyway. Is the tiny amount of noise that a PSU fan produces really that bad?
