New UEFI for R4 series. UEFI 1005.

If updating from an old BIOS, board will halt at code 70 when you reboot after the flash. This is normal, leave it for a few minutes while the onboard ROMs are updated.

Dont like the 8 pin Aux 12V directly at top center behind HSF

Edit: Might also mention Noctua and Coolermaster are offering 2011 socket update mounting brackets for free, including (just included in offer) Hyper 212+

Will the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme be released today for purchase?

They ship so many Rampage to reviewers, there is none left for customers.

I have a 3930k on my desk, but no motherboard to use it. Sigh.

Ok. Was able to catch one at Newegg. :)

Raja.

Do you think you could do an overclocking guide for the Asus X79 mobos like Gary did for the P67 mobos?

The BIOS of the Rampage is a bit over-the-top. So a nice guide would be appreciated. :)

I have my R4E with 3930k and GSkill F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH put together but it won't post, all I get is code 70.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Leave it at code 70 for a few minutes as the board is updating onboard ROMs. Have you updated UEFI (BIOS)?

After about a minute it cycles like it is trying to post but stops at code 70 again.

Is it possible to update the BIOS in its current state?

Leave it there for upto 5 minutes.

If it will not POST you can do one of two things:

1) Use the other BIOS (you have two, just switch to the other onboard chip).

2) Use ROG connect to flash BIOS or ROG USB Flashback.

You can use the latest build 0803:

I did try switching the BIOS previously but it would not switch.

I fired it up when I got home and it posted after about 30 seconds. So I decided to update the BIOS using the utility from within the BIOS, and after it completed it requested to be restarted. After restarting it proceeded to update the iROG-1, which after reaching 100% said firmware failed. I tried the ROG USB Flashback but it din't work, and since pushing the switch BIOS button dosn't work.
I swapped the BIOS chips and it is now back to code 70, I have let it sit for hours and it just cycles through other codes every minute or so and stops at code 70.

It seems (though the sample is small) that the asus boards are doing better with the corsair memory than the g.skill. Which sucks -- the ripjaws are cheap (relatively), fast, and come in wonderful 4x8gb or 8x8gb kits.

the dual bios gigabyte mobo had an endless reboot prob which could be fixed for some by only running one bios, using one that was not corrupted..

I'm running R4E with 16GB of G.Skill memory (low voltage 1.35V kit) with no issues.

When the switch BIOS button LED is pressd during standby an LED usually changes to indicate which of the chips is active - is this not working on your board?

If the board is not working, then I would like to RMA it and have one of our techs test it. We can set up a X-ship, so you get a board before you send that one back. Please PM me with your details and the board serial number.

I have pressed the red BIOS button many times but the LED never changes.

I just tried it again and as usual it stopped at code 70, however after returning to it with my morning coffee it posted so I pressed F1 and it is now in BIOS setup.

Edit: Well I have been using the board today and it seems ok, it did hang on code 40 twice but restarting cured it.

Also I just tried the BIOS button and it is now working , the LED changes to show the active chip.

Is there anyone using Quad-Fire with the Rampage IV? I've lost 2 hours trying to make 4X Lightning 6970 work on it. I get a computer reset/restart in every games or benchmarks. Tri-Fire is working fine in any combination, slots, and with any 3 cards. So the cards are fine, and the slots are fine. But Quad-Fire doesn't work.

Everything is at stock (CPU, RAM and GPUs), I have test my RAM and they are fine. I use 2 PSU for 2100 watts total, on 2 dedicated 20A circuits. Easy-plug 1 and 2 are plugged. I've test both PSUs in another system and they are working fine. Cards are watercooled and not overheating (cores are under 40 celsius and VRMs under 45 celsius).

Could it be that ATI, like Nvidia, were not ready for X79? I know Nvidia surround is not working with X79. Could it be that the latest ATI drivers where not ready for Quad with X79? I just need a confirmation that it's suppose to work, or not, and will continue/stop fighting with it.

Am I missing something in the BIOS?

Hello,
The computer refuses to boot very random, especially when remove power cable from the wall. When press power button, it can work for 1 sec, auto shutdown for 3-5 sec and start boot after that with wrong error code. But sometimes it’s boots without problem.
I have ASUS P9X79 Pro

When it has boot problem then LCD temperature numbers on my case show some garbage too.

Thanks.

Hi Raja,

Hoping you can make a suggestion here. I have been doing some further testing to address an unstable system build. I have the P9X79 WS with G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 1600 and cannot run with all 8 banks populated. At first I thought I had flaky RAM but took 4 sticks out, noted the system was then stable, and swapped out the 4 I had taken out. The RAM is OK, but with all 8 DIMMs installed I get funky video artifacts, windows lockups, etc. Is there a BIOS update I might try that isn't posted on the Asus site or perhaps do you think the 20uf setting mentioned will help? Is this a RAM compatibility issue with the model I am using?

Thanks in advance!

I pick up my R4E today, what's the latest official BIOS I should be running? Also, the latest RSTe software?

Raja, can you post your bios settings for the p9x79 pro, im also using 32gb of corsair vengeance 1600 memory, but im having problems getting 4.8ghz stable. Thanks. 4.6 is good tho, 46x100.

Does anyone know if there is a firmware update for the OC Key? I've done all the updates I can find for my R4E but don't see an OC Key update anywhere on Asus's site. Just want to make sure I didn't miss it.

Anyone having issues with Windows 7-64bit?
Base install works fine, but as soon as I install Service Pack 1, it bricks. I cant repair or fix it, and have to reinstall windows.

Nope Win7 x64 Ultimate works fine. Is yours a legit copy??

Yes, I have access to MSDN.
When I install SP1, once I reboot, the boot process passes the Intel storage display, then switches to a blinking cursor, where it stays permanently.

Your post makes no sense.
If you have "access to MSDN" then you could get 7 X64 with SP1 integrated. Then once you get your X64 SP1 you should MD5 check it to see if your download went well.

The SP1 update is problematic anyway on its own. There is a troubleshooter and several patches. Updating Win 7 on a chipset that wasnt even invented when SP1 came out is not something I would do.

I guess you could slipstream the thing.
http://www.rt7lite.com/downloads.html
there is a specific checkbox for adding SP1 as I recall, and it takes abit to figure out how to manipulate this app.But there are a million torrent sites with Win 7 X64 SP1, and if you have your MSDN legit key, then all you have to do is CRC check the download. If its been buggered then you know.

Awesome post Cisco. I would also add- make sure you are installing the Intel RST-e drivers. It has to be the enterprise drivers for X79. Get the nails from Asus or intel, they are the same version.

Maybe I didn't feel like burning a new DVD? I just used one I had laying around.

Installing Win7 on a chipset that wasn't even invented is just as bad. Whats your suggestion? Wait for Win8?

Use a torrented version of Windows? No thanks.

As it is the system is running fine for now. Ill keep investigating and go from there.

Nothing you post ever makes any sense. Your brain works in strange ways indeed.

You are too lazy to burn a DVD, but are fine doing an update that takes about 20 min even when it works? And it DIDN'T WORK!

I didnt say use a Win 7 on a X79 chipset that has drivers avail during INSTALL, I said doing a Win 7 to Win 7 SP1 UPDATE while on that chipset running is not a great idea.
I didnt say it couldnt be done, just not smart. And you are the one who brought the subject up - not me'

And you seemed to miss my advice to do a CRC check AFTER downloading (torrent or otherwise), which didn't register at all with you. Nor did my viable solution: RT7Lite. Not only that, your "SP1 no install" post is off topic here

However, since we are obviously on different wavelengths, I have just added you to my ignore list:
I will no longer see your posts

Edit:
The SP1 install routine stopped at INTEL STORAGE - do you think the SCU RSTe ports might have something to do with that??? Eh?

Wow, $450, I see my x58 to x79 build price is gonna be expensive, but Asus does make great mobos.

How is this off topic? Is this not an asus x79 mobo support thread?
Try eating more fiber in your diet man, you are really grumpy for no reason.

What CPU clocks are you running at?

8 DIMMs will need some sub-timing chamges and tuning of VCCSA. Can you list or screen capture your current settings and post them so I can make some suggestions please?
