Can't connect to minecraft server

Not sure if this is the right subforum, but yeah
I'm trying to connect to my friends minecraft server on my desktop. He has it set up properly, all ports forwarded etc. I can connect to his server on my laptop, but my desktop always says "can't resolve hostname" I don't want to play minecraft on my laptop because it is a netbook.
I don't understand why this is happening, since my laptop and desktop are on the same router. Can somebody help me out here? Thanks in advance

for the server ip. try that

Nevermind, he gave me the wrong IP, but swore it was the right one. I checked the settings on my laptop
