IBM, Intel Group to Invest $4.4 Billion in Chip Tech

Glad to see some infrastructure being invested in America instead of somewhere else in the world. And 6,900 new jobs is a good thing.

^Agree^ Probably the chips that they don't want China to produce for the Military because of the backdoor or self destruct mechanism.;)

4.4B seems aweful cheap for a fab environment. Guess it is a good time to invest in structure.

Imho, IBM should look at AMD for their next purchase. They started this whole thing after all

AMD only does design - not fab anymore, they spun that off to Global Foundries.

IBM and Globalfoundries work extremely close together on process development, co-occupying their development sites.

Also, you have to read through the PR speak - this amounts to 2,500 new jobs across the state - which is great. The fact that it is IBM, GF, and Intel means this involves SEMATECH, the only way I know of that Intel collaborates with IBM/GF. Lastly, this level of investment approximates what has been happening in the region over the last decade, so it's nice to see that continue.
