People don't want to continually provide content and edit Wikipedia free of charge? The ungrateful jerks will eventually move on to other things like jobs that pay? Say it isn't so!

Despite Wikipedia's wide-reaching popularity, Wales said the typical profile of a contributor is "a 26-year-old geeky male" who moves on to other ventures, gets married and leaves the website. Other contributors leave because, 10 years after the website was launched, there are fewer new entries to add, he said.

Only popular things are changed often. A lot of stuff gets deleted also for being controversial.

Its been around for 10+ years. Don't you think the majority of topics is somewhat covered by now?

The second bit about less articles needing to be written is the biggest contributing factor, I think. Major events, ideas, and nouns will get their articles written as they become notable, even with less contributors.

Initial contributions were very wasteful anyway. The Sonic The Hedgehog article, for example, does not need to be as long as it is.

If it isn't repitition or filler, does it matter? Surely more relevent information is better as long as it retains the quality and has some structure to it?

Don't care anymore. Their information was often erroneous anyway.

...and still others leave because they're sick of people deleting tons of useful information for no apparent reason.

Or stupid PR groups sanatizing personal biographics of politicians.

Not going to even get into that

They have become more and more strict and moderation has become more and more political lately. Maybe people don't want to put in a bunch of time and effort just to see all their work deleted in whole or in part. See: free markets vs fascism. I think there might be a wikipedia article ;p

Yes. Good thing they have the "history" tab so you can see it still. But seriously it's so common to see articles shrink from a good in-depth article, to 2 paragraphs due to heavy "moderation".
